About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the awesome layered tube
“Rusty Nail” from pack 73 by
You can purchase the tube at

I used the great  Halloween kit “Haunted House” from
The kit can also be purchased at

I used mask 159 from
And the halftone mask 2 from

For the animation you will need
Animation Shop
and the free bat animation 2 by Simone from
(search for bats in the search box).

Font is

I used a drop shadow of vertical 0, horizontal 5, opacity 95, blur 10.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 x 650 pixels and fill with white.

Make a new layer, select all, paste paper 6 into the selection, apply Insatiable Dreams mask and resize 95%.

Make another layer, paste paper 1 into the selection, deselect, apply the halftone mask and resize 85%.

Paste element 10 and resize 40%.  Select the interior of the element with your magic wand, expand the selection by 10, make a new layer below the element, paste paper 12 into the selection and deselect.  Apply the drop shadow to the frame, merge it down onto the paper, duplicate and move into position.

Paste element 27, resize 70%, drag below the merged layer, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 22, resize 75%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste the tube on the top, resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 1, resize 55%, drag below the tube, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 2, resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 15, resize 90%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 17, resize 35% and duplicate, place in position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Paste element 11, resize 40% and place in position.

Paste element 6 on the top, resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 4, resize 50% and mirror, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 11 again, resize 55% and place in position.

Check your layers and make any necessary adjustments, then crop your tag and add your copyright information and text.

Animation:

Starting at the top, close off all your layers down to and including element 11 (the cloud) that is behind the tube and merge the open layers visible.  Close off the merged layer, open the closed layers and merge those visible.

Open Simon’s animation in Animation Shop and resize it 45% (Animation – Resize Animation).

Copy the bottom merged layer, paste it in animation shop “As New Animation” and duplicate it until you have 16 frames (the same number of frames as the bat animation).  Click on the first frame of the bat animation and go to Edit – Select All – Edit – Copy.  Click on your merged frame layer 1, go to “Edit – Select All then right click, “Paste Into Selected Frame” and position the bat animation on your tag.

Back in Paint Shop copy the top merged copy of your tag and again paste it in Animation Shop “As New Animation” and duplicate the frame as before.  Select all these frames and copy them as you did the bat animation and paste them on your tag.

When you are done, run your tag through the Optimization Wizard and save it as a gif.
