About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used a fantastic tube by
Cris DeLara.
You need a license to use Cris’ art, available at

The kit is called “Mommie Dearest” by
This is a great alternative mother’s day kit and can be purchased at

You will need the free template
by
Thank you Dee.

You will also need a mask, I used mask 141 by

I used the font

If this is the first tutorial of mine you have followed, please check out my About my Tutorials page before starting, thank you.

Unless noted, I used a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 90, blur 5.

Open the template, duplicate it and close the original, resize 80% with all layers checked and then increase your canvas size to 750 x 700 pixels.   Delete the top layer “Info” then open and activate the white background layer and fill it completely with white.

Copy Paper13-GI_MommieDearest, make a new layer on your canvas (should be above the white layer), select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 110%.

Paste BookPages-GI_MommieDearest as a new layer, resize 75% and rotate 10 degrees to the right, apply the drop shadow.

Paste LetterPaperPlain-GI_MommieDearest as a new layer, resize 75%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste TagBack-GI_MommieDearest as a new layer, resize 85%, place in position on the left, duplicate, move the duplicate over to the right, erase any that overlaps with the first layer and apply the drop shadow to each.

Paste Splatter-GI_MommieDearest as a new layer, resize 60% and position top, right, duplicate, move the duplicate over to the left and apply the drop shadow to each layer.

Paste Flowers-GI_MommieDearest, resize 90%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Now we will work on the actual template.

Click on crème rectangle to activate it, go to Selections – Float – Selections – Defloat, copy Paper13-GI_MommieDearest, make a new layer and paste the paper into the selection, deselect.  Delete the original template layer and drag the paper layer down below the flowers.  Apply the drop shadow.

Activate plum rectangle and again, float it, defloat it, make a new layer and paste Paper6-Gi_Mommie Dearest into the selection, delete the original template layer and apply the drop shadow to the paper.

Repeat with the circle layer pasting paper 2 into it.

Repeat with crème oval layer pasting paper 11 into it and apply the drop shadow to both the paper layer and the white oval layer.

Repeat with each of the tan strips pasting paper 2 into them.

Delete bottom circle layer and bottom dotted line.

Now we will get our tube and elements into position before we fill the rest of the template.

Paste your tube as a new layer below all the text, resize it as needed, place in position and apply a drop shadow.  I resized my tube 85% and used a shadow of vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 85, blur 10.

Paste Rose-GI_MommieDearest as a new layer, resize 60% and place in position (it already has a shadow).

Paste String-GI_MommieDearest as a new layer, resize 80%, place in position and apply the original drop shadow.

Paste Syringe-GI_MommieDearest as a new layer, resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste PillBottle-GI_MommieDearest as a new layer, resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste Coffee-GI_MommieDearest as a new layer, resize 35%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste Fly-GI_MommieDearest as a new layer and bring to the top, resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.  I dabbed around the bottom of my tube with my eraser on 10% opacity to blend the hard edge out.

Activate middle plum layer, float and defloat it as before, make a new layer, fill it with black and delete the original template layer, do not deselect.  Open your tube again paste it as a new layer, position it in the circle, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess, do not deselect.

Invert the selection again, make a new layer below the black paper layer, expand the selection by 5 and fill with #f6f6f5, deselect, go to Adjust – Add/Remove Noise – Add Noise and apply with Gaussian and Monochrome checked and the Noise amount set to 20%.  Lower the opacity of the tube to around 50 and apply the drop shadow to the white layer.

Repeat the above with top purple circle and the tube mirrored.  You can move these layers around a little if you want to get them into a better position, just merge the tube, dotted lines and black and white layers together first.

Now activate large tan circle and do the same with this layer and the tube again mirrored.  Apply the shadow to the white layer.

Phew, all done, now crop your tag, add your copyright information and text and export on a transparent background as a png.
