About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the art of Alicia Mujica.
I purchased my license to use this tube at
PSP Tubes Emporium
but they are now available from

I used a really beautiful kit called
“Love You Snow Much” by
This is a huge kit with some beautiful elements;
many more than I have used in my tag.
You can purchase the kit at

You will also need a mask, I used mask 1 by

For the animation you will need the free plugin
“Snowflakes”
Contact me if you have problems with this filter.

I used the font

Please check out my “About my tutorials” page if this is the first of my tutorials you have followed, thank you.

I used a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 60, blur 10.

Open a new transparent canvas 700 by 650 and fill with white.

Open and copy Paper 2, make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.   Resize 90%, duplicate and merge the top copy down onto the original copy.

Open Frame2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, rotate 15 degrees to the left and place in position.

Open Frame3 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60%, rotate 90 degrees in either direction and place in position.  We will come back to these two frames later.

Open Element 54 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Element 17 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 65%, mirror, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  This will be behind the tube.

Open Element 56 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Element 30 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 70%, mirror, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Element 7 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55% and place in position.  Again, we will come back to this.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.   I resized my tube 75%.

If you are using the same tube as me, open Element 41, resize it 35%, drag it below the tube and sit her on it, apply the drop shadow.

Ok, lets check our layers so far and make any adjustments.

Open Element 11 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 70% and flip, drag down below Element 56 (the silver leaf) and position so just a little is showing on the left.  Duplicate, mirror the duplicate and position on the right.  Apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open Element 36 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 40% and duplicate, position one on the left just above the holly and one on the right between the disco ball type element and the glass bauble element.  Apply the drop shadow to each.

Open Element 38, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.   Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Element 59 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75% and rotate 90 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Element 22 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Element 18 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Element 65 and paste as a new layer.   Flip, resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Element 16 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Element 6 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 80% and duplicate, place both stars in position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Open Element 25 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check your layers again.

Open Spray 2 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror and position just above the glass bauble element.

Copy paper 2 again, go back to frame 3 and select the interior with your magic wand, expand the selection by 10, make a new layer below it paste the paper into it.  Paste your tube again or the close up if you have one, position in the frame resizing as needed, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess, deselect.  Repeat this with frame 2 and the tube mirrored.   I used the close up resized 65%.  When you are done change the blend mode on the tubes to “Luminance (Legacy)” and lower the opacity to around 45, then apply the drop shadow to the frames.

Click on the glass bauble element to activate it, then click anywhere outside of the element with your magic wand, expand the selection by 3 and invert it,  make a new layer below the bauble, copy the paper again and paste it into the selection.  Mirror your tube and paste it again, resize it and position inside the bauble, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess, deselect.  I used the main tube resized 75% again.   Erase the small parts of the paper and the tube that are in in the bauble hanger as this part will have been included in the selection.  Apply the drop shadow to the bauble.  Lower the opacity of the tube to around 85 and merge it down onto the paper.

Crop your tag and add your copyright information and text and we will continue with the animation.

Go back to the merged layer inside the glass bauble, duplicate it twice and close off the top two copies.  Make sure the open copy is activated and go to Selections – Select All - Selections - Float – Selections - De-float and apply the Snowflakes filter using the settings in my screenshot below.

Close off this copy, open the second copy and apply the filter again moving the Random Seed slider along a little, repeat with the third copy.

Right click on your tag,  “Copy Merged” and paste in Animation Shop “As a new animation”.  Back in PSP, close off this layer, open another, copy and paste “Before current frame”, repeat with the third copy.  Change the frame properties on each layer to 20, run through the Animation Wizard and save as a gif.  You can also save the frames without the text before running through the Wizard so you can add names later, more info on my Tips and Tricks page.
