About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the layered tube “Amber Eyes” from pack 46 by
Barbara Jensen.
The tube can be purchased at

I used a kit called “Haunted House” by
This awesome kit can also be found at

You will also need a mask, I used mask 22 by

You will need Animation Shop if you wish to do the animation.

I used the font

Please check out my “About my tutorials” page if this is the first tutorial of mine that you have followed, thank you.

I used a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 85, blur 10.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 650 pixels and fill with white.

Open pp7 and copy, make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper in the selection and apply the mask.  Resize 90%.

Open el10 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%.  Select the interior with your magic wand and expand the selection by 20, make a new layer below it, open and copy pp1 and paste it into the selection, deselect.  Apply the drop shadow to the element and merge it down onto the paper.

Open el1 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el30 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el15 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el20 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 35% and rotate 20 degrees to the left.   Select the interior with your magic wand and expand the selection as before, open and copy pp3, make a new layer below the element and paste the paper into the selection, deselect.  Apply the drop shadow to the element, merge it down own onto the paper and place in position.

Now let’s have some fun with Barbara’s tube!  Open it and close the original.  Pick the tube without wings, go to Adjust – Hue and Saturation – colorize and set both values to “0”, then pick the rest of your layers.  When you are done, copy merged and paste the tube as a new layer on your canvas, resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55% and rotate 20 degrees to the right, drag below the tube, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el3 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el8 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el24 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el27 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el28 and paste as a new layer.   Mirror, resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el17 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 45% and position on the left of the tube.  Duplicate, resize the duplicate 90%, drag it up above the tube and position on the right.  Apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open el6 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror and flip, resize 70%, place in position below the tube and apply the drop shadow.

Open el4, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.   Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el9 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 40% and rotate 20 degrees to the left, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.

Open el11 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75% and place in position below the tube.  Duplicate, bring the duplicate up to the top, resize it 75% again and place in position to cover the hard edge on the bottom of the tube.  If you can still see any of the hard edge, dab around it with your eraser set on 10 opacity to blend it out.

Now crop your tag and add your copyright information and text.

Open el14 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 65%, drag down below the tube and place in position like my screen shot below.

Right click on your tag, copy merged, open Animation Shop and paste “As a new animation”.

Black in Paint Shop, click on the skeleton with your mover tool being careful not to actually move it, keep your mover tool on the canvas and click on the up arrow of your arrow keys on your keyboard 15 times (doesn’t need to be exact).  This will move the skeleton up in a straight light.  Copy merged again and paste in animation shop “After current frame”.

Repeat this step three times, each time moving the skeleton up a bit and pasting it in Animation Shop after the last frame.  You should now have 5 frames.  Click on frame 4 to activate it, copy it and paste it after the last frame.  Now click on frame 3, copy and paste after the last frame and then do the same with frame 2.  You now have 8 frames.

Set the speed of the first frame to 30 and the rest of them to 20 (Animation – Frame Properties).

When you are done, run your tag through the Optimization Wizard and save as a gif.  Remember, if you want to save the tag without names so you can add them later, save as a mng (more info in my Tips and Tricks page).
