About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the fabulous August bonus tube
“Sun Stroked” by
Barbara Jensen.
This tube is free with a tube purchase of $10 from
ending at midnight on 21st August.

I used a fantastic kit
“Hollywood Glam” by
The kit can also be purchased at

You will need some light beam brushes, I used one from a pack by
These brushes are free for personal use.
Search for "Light Beams" in the search box and just click on the
download button, no need to add to a cart.
As they are photoshop brushes, you will need to convert them into pngs.
This is very easy,  check my “Tips and Tricks” page for a short
tutorial on how to convert them.

You will also need a mask, I used mask 147 by

I used the font

Please check out my “About my tutorials” page before starting, thank you.

I used a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 85, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and fill with white.

Open pp10 and copy, make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask, resize 90%.

Open 22 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 70% and position top, right.  Duplicate and position bottom, left.  Apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open 20 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  If you are using one of Barbara’s tube, duplicate it and close the original, pick your layers and copy merged.   I resized my tube 75%.

Open 4 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 40% and rotate 20 degrees to the left, drag down below the tube and element 20 and place in position.  Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 20, make a new layer below it, open pp3, copy it and paste it into the selection.  Open your tube again or the close up if you have one, mirror it and paste it as a new layer, position in the frame, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess.  Apply the drop shadow to the frame. I used the close resized 75%.

Open 26 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open 30 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open 23 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open 2 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 50% and rotate 20 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open 14 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80% and position on the left of the tube, duplicate, mirror the duplicate and position on the left.   Apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open 29 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 75%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open 17 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open 18 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open 21 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40% and rotate 20 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open 3 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 35% and position on the right of the tube, duplicate and position on the left, apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.

Open 12 and paste as a new layer on the top.  Flip, resize 40%, position on the left and apply the drop shadow.

Open the Light Beams and convert them into pngs.  Open Light Beam 5 in Paint Shop.  Resize it to 800 pixels wide with All Layers checked then export it as a brush (File – Export – Custom Brush) giving it the original name.   Set your foreground colour to white, make a new layer and apply the Light Beam brush with size set to 350 in the middle of your tag.  Flip the beam and rotate 10 degrees to the right, place in position and erase the pointed end so it looks like its coming out of the spot light, duplicate it, lower the opacity to around 50 on the duplicate and merge it down onto the original copy then merge this layer down onto the spotlight, duplicate, mirror and position on the right hand side.

When you are done, crop your tag, add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.
