About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the beautiful art of
Jamie Kidd.
You need a license to use Jamie’s art,

The kit I used is “Purple Rain” by
This is a gorgeous kit and can be purchased at

You will also need a mask, I used mask 141 by

I used the font

Please check out my “About my tutorials” Page before starting, thank you.

I used a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 80, blur 10.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 650 pixels and fill with white.

Open pp9 and copy, make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask, duplicate, flip the duplicate and line up on the original copy, then it merge down.  Resize 95%.

Open  your tube and paste as a new layer, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  I resized my tube 70%.

Open el30 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 75% and rotate 70 degrees to the right.  Select the interior of each section with your magic wand and expand the selection by 4, open and copy pp6, make a new layer below the element and paste the paper into the selection, deselect.  Apply the drop shadow to the frame, merge it down onto the paper, drag below the tube and place in position.

Open your text tool and using the font “Impact” (it’s a Window’s font) with no outline, type the words “purple rain”.   It doesn’t matter what colour you use.  Use the nodes while the font is still a vector to get it about the same size as mine.  When you are done convert to a raster layer and select, float and de-float it.  Open pp6, copy it and paste it as a new layer, resize it 75%  and position nicely on the text, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess paper.  Delete the original text layer, desaturate the text (Adjust – Hue and Saturation – Colorize with both settings on “0”), apply an Inner Bevel to the font with the setting as my screenshot below and then apply the drop shadow.

Open el27 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 55% and rotate 10 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el9 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 65%, drag down below the text, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el15 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 45% and duplicate, place one copy below the merged film strip layer on the left and one above it on the right, apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open e24 and paste as a new layer, it needs to be just below the tube.  Resize 80%, duplicate and mirror the duplicate, place both copies into position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Open el7a and paste as a new layer.   Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el18 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el13, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.   Resize 55% and duplicate, mirror the duplicate, move each element into position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Open el2a and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60% place in position on the right, duplicate, mirror the duplicate and move over to the left, erase any parts that overlap and apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Copy and paste el24 again as a new layer, resize it 80% as before, drag down below the ribbon and place in position so just a little of the flowers show, erase the bottom part and apply the drop shadow.

Open el23, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.   Resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el7 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 35% and duplicate, place both flowers into position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Open el12 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el25 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 40% and rotate 30 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el17 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 42%, drag down below the flower, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.

Open el6 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 35% and rotate 30 degrees in either direction, duplicate, mirror the duplicate, place both butterflies into position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Open el11 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 35% and apply the drop shadow, place in position erasing some so it’s hooked over the wording.

Open el26 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 50% and drag right down to just above the mask layer and position on the left, duplicate, mirror the duplicate and position on the right.  Apply the drop shadow to both layers.
