About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the “Dark Pack” by
Zindy S.D. Nielsen and Creationz by Jo.
This beautiful pack comprises my favourite of Jo’s kits,
“Dark vs Light” which I have used in a tut before
and two of Zindy’s beautiful tubes
“Watching it Fly” and “What’s Left of Me”.
You can get the pack at Zindy’s store here,
currently discounted to just $2.52!

You will also need a mask, I used Vix Big mask 017 here.

For the animation you will need Animation Shop and
Simone’s animation 71, here.

Font is Dreamer one, here.

Remember to sharpen up those elements after resizing as otherwise they will look a bit blurry; check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 80, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open CBJ_Dark vs Light Paper 10 and copy.   Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 95%.

Open CBJ_Dark vs LightStickie and paste as a new layer, resize 85% and place in position.

Open CBJ_Dark vs Light WhtGlitter and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_Dark vs Light Fr2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open DBJ_Dark vs Light Clock and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open the tube and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_Dark vs Light DoodleEdge2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_Dark vs LightPuckRib2 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_Dark vs Light Flowers and paste as a new layer.   Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_Dark vs LightPapRose and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_Dark vs LightPapRose2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_Dark vs LightTinyFlo1 and paste as a new layer.   Duplicate 3 times, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_Dark vs LightButFly2 and paste as a new layer.  Go to Adjust – Hue and Saturation – Colorise and change both values to 0, click apply.   Resize 80%, duplicate and mirror the duplicate, place both butterflies into position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.  When you are done, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text.  If you are not continuing with the animation, export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

Animation:

Starting at the top, close off all your layers down to and including the tube, click on one of the open layers to activate them and merge visible.  Close off the merged layer, open the rest of the layers, again click on one to activate and merge visible.  You will now have just the two layers.

Open Simon’s animation in Animation Shop.  It’s a little large and we need to resize it so go to Animation – Resize Animation, check the box “Percentage of Original” and type in 90, click on ok.

Back in Paintshop, close off the top layer and open the bottom layer, copy it and paste it in animation shop as “A New Animation”.  Simone’s animation has 31 frames so we need to duplicate this bottom layer so that has 31 frames also.   When you have your 31 frames, click on Simon’s animation to activate it then go to Edit – Select All – Edit –Copy.  Click on your bottom layer frames and again go to Edit – Select All then right click on the first frame and “Paste into Selected Frame”.  Position Simone’s animation in the centre of the clockface.

Go back to Paintshop, close off that bottom layer and open the top layer, click on it to activate it then copy it and paste it in Animation Shop “As a New Animation”.  Again duplicate so you have 31 frames then copy it and paste it on your animation.

View your animation, if its not right, undo and reposition, if you are happy run it through the Optimization wizard and save it.  When you run it through the wizard, on the second page click on “Customize” and make sure “Optimized Median Cut” is selected.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, you can email me here and please check out my Dark Vs Light tut where I also used this fabulous kit.
