About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the beautiful art of Zindy S.D. Nielsen.
You need a license to use Zindy’s art,
available at her store here.

The kit is called “Zindy’s Angel” and is by
This is a gorgeous kit and will go with many of Zindy’s tubes.
The kit is also available at Zindy's store.

You will also need a mask, I used Weescotslass’ mask 133 here.

Font is Dreamer One, here.

For the animation, you will need Animation Shop.

Remember to sharpen up your elements after resizing as otherwise they will look a little blurry; check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a soft drop shadow unless otherwise stated of vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 50, blur 10.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with  white.  Make another layer and flood fill with black then close this layer out, its just a temporary layer we will need later.

Open CBJ-ZAngel_P9 and copy.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 85%.

Open CBJ_ZAngel_BranchLeavesElem and paste as a new layer.  Mirror and resize 45%, position towards the right and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_ZAngel_ClockElem and paste as a new layer.  Resize 85% and place in position but don’t apply the shadow yet.

Open CBJ_ZAngel_CloudElem and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60% and place in position.

Open CBJ_ZAngel_FloGlitter1Elem and paste as a new layer.  Resize 95%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_ZAngel_FloGlitter2Elem and paste as a new layer.  Resize 85%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_ZAngel_HrtScattersElem and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_ZAngel_RibbonElem and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 38%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_ZAngel_BranchElem and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Duplicate the cloud layer and bring the duplicate to the top, resize it 70% and position on the bottom part of the tube then lower the opacity to around 50.

Open CBJ_ZAngel_FlutterScatterElem and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70% and position on the bottom part of the tube.

Open up that black layer we made at the beginning, you will see the butterflies go way outside the tag, erase the ones that are outside of the mask and also check the positions of all your layers.

When you are happy everything is in the right place,  crop your tag, then delete the black layer  and add your copyright information and text.  If you are not continuing with the animation, apply a drop shadow to the clock of vertical and horizontal 0, opacity 60, blur 10 and export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

Animation :

Starting at the top, close off all your layers down to and including the clock.  Click on one of the open layers and merge visible.  Rename this layer “Bottom”.

Close Bottom layer off and open the clock.  Rename this layer “Clock”.

Close off Clock, keep Bottom layer closed and open the top layers, click on one to activate and merge visible.  Rename this layer “Top”.

You will now have three layers in your layer pallete – Bottom, Clock and Top.

Open Clock layer and duplicate, apply a drop shadow to the duplicate changing the vertical and horizontal to 0 and opacity to 60 then right click on it, copy and paste in animation shop “As a New Animation”.

Go to Effects – Insert Image Effect and choose “Underwater” from the drop down menu.  Effect length should be 2.0 secs and Frames per second 2 fps.  Now click on customize and apply the settings in the Effects pane as my screenshot below.  Use your mouse to pull out the waves or to remove them, pull them right off the pane.  The waves don’t have to be exact just something like mine.  Click on ok, then click on ok again.  You will have 5 frames, roll back to the first frame and delete it as that has no animation.

Go back to Paintshop, close out the duplicate clock layer and make sure Top is closed.  Right click and copy merged then paste in animation shop as a new animation.  You need the same number of frames as you have on your animation so duplicate it until you have 4 frames.   Click on the animation to activate it and go to Edit – Select All – Edit – Copy.  Now click on Bottom frames and again go to Edit – Select All – Edit – Paste – Paste into Selected Frame.  Position the animated clock frames directly on top of the clock on the Bottom Frames.

Back in Paintshop, close off Bottom and the Clock layers and open Top, again activate it and copy merged, then paste in animation shop as a new animation.  Duplicate so you have four copies and do the same thing as you did with the clock animation pasting it onto your tag.

The animation will be running a little fast so go to Edit – Select All – Animation – Frame Properties and change the value to 25.

When you are done, run your tag through the Optimization Wizard and save as a gif.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and made it to the end!  If you have any questions, you can email me here. As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
