About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the art of Barbara Jensen.
You need a license to use Barbara’s art,
available from her store here.
I absolutely love this tube, my favourite of Barbara’s now!

The kit I used is called “Key to my Heart” and is by
This kit is just awesome and is also available at

You will also need a mask, I used Weescotslass’ mask 84, here.

Font of choice.  I used Ammonite with
Alien Skin, Eye Candy 5, Impact, Chrome effect.

Resizing/rotating elements makes them a little blurry so we need to sharpen them up afterwards; for more info, check out my Tips and Tricks page.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 70, blur 10.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 575 pixels and floodfill with white.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used pp10.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.

Open el24 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%.  Because of the layer options I chose for my tube I recoloured this element.

Open pp8 and copy.  Select the interior of el24 with your magic wand and expand the selection by 20, make a new layer below it and paste the paper into the selection.  Do not deselect.

Open your tube or the close up if you have one and paste as a new layer.  Resize as needed (I resized 75%)  and position inside the element, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess tube, deselect.  Change the blend mode on the tube to “Luminance (Legacy)”, merge down onto the paper layer and apply the blinds texture (Effects – Texture Effects – Blinds) with width set to 3, opacity to 40 and both Horizontal and Light Left/Top boxes checked.  Apply the drop shadow to the frame.

Open your main tube and paste as a new layer.  Resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  If you are using one of Barbara’s tubes, open it, duplicate and close the original, make your layer options and copy merged.  I resized my tube 75%.

Open el28 and paste as a new layer on the top.  Resize 90% and place in position on the bottom of the tube.  Duplicate this layer, rotate the duplicate 90% to the right, drag down so it’s just above the mask layer and place in position so it shows on the left of el24.  Duplicate again, mirror and place in position on the right of the element.  Apply the drop shadow to each layer.

Open el3, paste as a new layer.  Drag up to below your main tube, flip, resize 60% and rotate 30 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el4 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el6 and paste as a new layer.  Flip, resize 60%, duplicate and mirror the duplicate, place both elements into position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Open el8 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60% and duplicate, place both roses into position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Open el20 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75% and rotate 20 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el27 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45% and rotate 10 degrees to the left, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el25, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Mirror, resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el2 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 30% and rotate 40 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el23 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40% and rotate 20 degrees to the left.  Duplicate and mirror the duplicate.  Place both butterflies into position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.  When you are happy, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, you can email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
