About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the "Winter Dreams Collection" by
Zindy S.D. Nielsen and Creationz by Jo.
The collection, comprising Zindy's beautiful Sweet Blue Pinup tube and
a gorgeous matching kit by Creationz by Jo, can be purchased
at the amazing price of $1.80 from Zindy's store, here.

You will also need a mask, I used Insatiable Dreams mask 160, here.

Font is An Unfortunate Event, here.

If you wish to do the animation you will need Animation Shop and
the falling snow animation here.

Remember to sharpen up those elements after resizing/rotating as otherwise they will look a little blurry; check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a soft drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 50, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 500 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open CBJ_WDP5 and copy.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.

Open CBJ_WDFlowerScatter and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65% and place in position on the left.

Open CBJ_WDSnowFlkBubble and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75% and move over to the right.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  I resized my tube 80%.

Open CBJ_WDFlakeScatter and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, drag down below the tube, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_WDRibbon and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_WDCandles2 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_WDFlufLeaves and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, rotate 30 degrees to the left and resize 30%.  Place in position, erase the stalk that shows below the tube and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_WDWintFlower, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 15%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_WDCones and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.

Open CBJ_WDTwig and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, drag down below the bubble and position inside it. Erase any of the twig that shows outside the bubble and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_WDDear and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  You will have to drag the deer above the bubble to position it and then move it down again.

Check your layers again then crop your tag and add your copyright information and text.  If you are not continuing with the animation, export your tag as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

Ok, you ready for the animation!!

Take your freehand selection tool and draw a selection just inside the bubble, something like my screenshot below.  It doesn’t have to be precise.

Now open the snow animation in Animation Shop.  Go to File - Export Frames - To Paint Shop Pro.  The animation will now open in PSP in layers.  Go back to Animation Shop and again go to File - Export Frames - Break link with Exported Frames.  Make sure you have the bubble activated so the snow is just above it and paste each layer of the animation as a new layer starting from layer 1.  Be sure not to move any of the layers as otherwise the animation will jump.  Invert the selection and hit delete on each snow layer to remove the excess then deselect.

Close off all the snow layers apart from the last one.  Right click on your tag and "Copy Merged" then paste in animation shop as a new animation.  Close off that layer of the snow and open the layer below it, right click and Copy Merged again and paste in animation shop "Before Current Frame".  Do this for all the snow layers working down.

Check your animation is running correctly by going to View - Animation.  If all is well, run your tag through the optimisation wizard and export as a gif.  Remember, if you want to save your tag without the text so you can add different names later, you can save it as a mng file (more info on my Tips and Tricks page).

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, you can email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
