About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the beautiful
“Gothic Hearts October Pack”
by Zindy S.D. Nielsen and Creationz by Jo.
The pack comprises two beautiful tubes by Zindy,
“Frozen Hearts” and “Gothic Poetry”
and the kit “Gothic Heart” by
This pack is priced at just $2.95 but is only available
during the month of October.
You can get it here.

You will also need a mask, I used Weescotslass’ mask 177, here.

Font is Dreamer One, here.

Don’t forget to sharpen your elements after resizing/rotating as otherwise they will look a little blurry; you can check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 80, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used CBJGothicHeartP11.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask. Resize 90%.

Open CBJGothicHeartFrame2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%.

Open CBJGothicHeartP1 and copy.  Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 20, make a new layer below the frame and paste the paper into the selection, do not deselect.

Open the Winter Poetry tube, mirror and flip it and then paste it as a new layer on your canvas.  Position the tube nicely in the frame, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess tube.  Apply the drop shadow to both the frame and tube layers and change the blend mode on the tube to Soft Light.

Open the Frozen Hearts tube and paste as a new layer making sure it on the top.  Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJGothicHeartLoveWords and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, drag right down until its just above the mask, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJGothicHeartTrail and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55% and place in position.

Open CBJGothicHeartRose and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, place in position so just a little is showing above the top of the frame and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJGothicHeartBranch and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 50%, rotate 10 degrees to the left, place in position, erase the part of the stalk that is too long and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJGothicHeartFlower3 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 25%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJGothicHeartIvy2 and paste as a new layer.  Drag up so its just above the frame, resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJGothicHeartIvy1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 35%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJGothicHeartFlower3 again and paste as a new layer.  Resize 20%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJGothicHeartOrchidBranch and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, flip, resize 35%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJGothicHeartRingRose and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJGothicHeartRingRose2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJGothicHeartRibbon2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 25%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJGothicHeartWatch and paste as a new layer.  Resize 25% and rotate 90 degrees to the left, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJGothicHeartBowHrt and paste as a new layer.  Resize 20%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.

Open CBJGothicHeartGlitter and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, duplicate a couple of times, drag down and position so some shows between the leaf and flower layers that are at the bottom below the frame/tube/paper layers.  Apply the drop shadow to each layer.

Open CBJGothicHeartStars, paste as a new layer and drag up so its just below the Frozen Hearts tube, resize 40% and place in position.

Again, check your layers and when you are happy, crop your tag, add your copyright information and text and export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
