Ode to Autumn

In this tutorial I used the art of Suzanne Woolcott.
You need a license to use Suzanne’s art,
they are available here.

I used a fabulous kit called “Ode to Autumn” by
The colours and elements in this kit are really beautiful!
You can get it here.
Thank you Carita!

You will also need a mask,
I used Insatiable Dreams mask 565, here.

Font is 1 Snappy DNA, here.

Don’t forget to sharpen up those elements after resizing/rotating, otherwise they will be a little blurry. Check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 75, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 550 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used pp7.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 87%.

Open fr1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55%.

Open another of the papers and copy, this time I used pp5.  Select the interior of both parts of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 10, make a new layer below the frame and paste the paper into the selection, deselect.  Apply the drop shadow to the frame and merge it down onto the paper layer.

Open el7 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65%, drag down below the merged layer and duplicate, place both copies in position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Open el5 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 95%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube, paste as a new layer and bring to the top, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el6 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, drag down below the tube, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el14 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el8, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el16 and paste as a new layer.   Mirror, resize 95%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el27 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el9 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55% and rotate 120 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el26 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50% and rotate 20 degrees to the left, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open wa1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.  When you are happy, crop your tag and add your copyright information.

For the font, I made a gradient of two colours from the apple, I stretched the name out a little and rotated it.  I then took a paler colour from the apple and recoloured the end with the Change to Target tool on 50% opacity (check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info on re-colouring).  I then applied an inner bevel with the settings in my screenshot below and applied the drop shadow.

When you are all done, export your tag as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!

Here is another example of the tag using the art of Amy Brown.
Again, you need a licence to use Amy's art, available here.
