Mummified

In this tutorial I used the amazing art of Elias Chatzoudis.
You need a license to use Elias’ art, available here.

I used an awesome kit called “Mummyfied” by
This is a great kit, I loved it, thank you Sarah!
You can get it here.

You will also need a mask, I used Horseplay’s Pasture mask 8, here.

Font of choice.

Don’t forget to sharpen up those elements after resizing/rotating as otherwise your tag will look a little blurry; for more info, check out my Tips and Tricks page.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 75, blur 10.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used sb_pmt_mummified_pp10.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 90%, move over slightly to the left, duplicate and mirror and flip the duplicate.

Open sb_pmt_mummified_frame3 and paste as a new layer.  Draw a selection around the bottom third of the frame and delete it.  Move over a little to the right.  Select the interior of both parts of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 20.

Open sb_pmt_mummified_pp1 and paste as a new layer below the frame.  Resize 70%, position nicely in the frame, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess paper.  Do not deselect.

Open your tube or the close up if you have one and paste as a new layer.   Resize as needed (I used the close up and resized 80%), place in position in the frame and again, hit delete to remove the excess.  Apply the drop shadow to the frame and lower the opacity of the tube to around 40.

Open your main tube and paste as a new layer making sure its on the top, resize as needed (I resized 75%), place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_mummified_flower1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, drag down so its must above the two masks, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Oen sb_pmt_mummified_flower3 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_mummified_tree and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position, erase the bottom part of the trunk that is too long and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_mummified_web, paste as a new layer and drag up above the frame.  Resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  Delete any parts of the web that show over the edge of the right hand side of the frame.

Open sb_pmt_mummified_ribbon2 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 50% and rotate 70 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_mummified_flower4 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_mummified_cat1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_mummified_pumpkin1, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.

Open sb_pmt_mummified_scene 1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 85% and centre it along the bottom of your tag. The element is too wide but we don’t want to make it any smaller in height so we need to make it narrower.   Activate your Pick tool or Deform tool if you are using an earlier Jasc version.  This tool is the second one down on the side bar in both versions.  When you click on the tool, you will see nodes around the element.  Push the centre node on each side to narrow the element.

Check your layer positions again, when you are happy, add your copyright information and text, then export your tag as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
