About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the art of Suzanne Woolcott.
You need a license to use Suzanne’s art,
they are available here.

I used a real fun kit called “Halloween Town” by
You can get it here.

You will also need a mask, I used Gem’s mask 209, here.

Font is Skullphabet, here.

Your elements will need to be sharpened after resizing/rotating, otherwise they will be a little blurry’ check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 80, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used sb_pmt_halloween town_pp3.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 80%.

Open sb_pmt_halloween town_frame3 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 90%.

Open an other of the papers and copy, this time I used sb_pmt_halloween town_pp5.  Select the interior the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 10, make a new layer below the frame and paste the paper into the selection.  Do not deselect.

Open sb_pmt_halloween town_ground3 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 90% and position inside the frame, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess element, deselect and apply the drop shadow to the element and to the frame.

Open sb_pmt_halloween town_crescent moon and paste as a new layer.  Resize 15%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_halloween town_building1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60%, drag down so it’s just above the mask layer, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_halloween town_building2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_halloween town_spooky tree2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open one of the houses and paste as a new layer, I used  sb_pmt_halloween town_house 4.  Resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_halloween town_beads spills1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_halloween town_hanger1, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 85% and rotate 90 degrees to the left, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_halloween town_jack o lantern and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_halloween town_cauldron and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open one of the ghosts and paste as a new layer, I used sb_pmt_halloween town_ghost1.  Resize 25%, duplicate and mirror the duplicate, place both ghosts in position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Open sb_pmt_halloween town_bat and paste as a new layer.  Resize 30% and duplicate, resize the duplicate another 80%, place both bats into position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Check the positons of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.  When you are happy, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. If you have any questions, please email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
