About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the art of Jennifer Janesko.
You need a license to use Jennifer’s art,
I purchased mine from CILM but they are now available at

The kit I used is Inspired by Concetta Kilmer 1-2 by
I love this kit, thank you Carita!
You can get it also at Creative Design Outlet.

You will also need a mask, I used Gem’s mask 209 here.

I used MuRa’s Meister, Copies plugin on the butterflies.
This is a free plugin, here.
If you don’t want to install the plugin, you can duplicate and rotate the
butterflies yourself.

For the animation you will need Greg’s Factory Outlet II, Pool Shadow.
This is a free filter, you can get it here.
(If you have Filters Unlimited installed, you will need to import this filter in that).

Font is All Hooked Up, here.

Remember to sharpen up your elements after resizing/rotating, otherwise they will be a little blurry.  Check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 80, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open paper 6 and copy.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 80%.  Duplicate, mirror and flip and move the two masks closer together a little.

Open fr1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65% and move over a little higher and to the right.

Open paper 4 and copy.  Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 20, make a new layer below the frame and paste the paper into the selection, deselect.  Apply the drop shadow to the frame.

Open your tube, copy and paste as a new layer, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el10 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 85% and rotate 90 degrees to the left.  Drag it down below the merged layer, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el8 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el6, paste as a new layer and drag up above the frame layer.  Resize 75% and rotate 10 degrees to the left, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el7 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el4 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el15 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el5 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el14 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments. Set this aside for the moment.

Open a new transparent canvas 500 by 500 pixels.  Open el11 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 30% and unsharp mask (radius and clipping set to 5 and strength to 30).  Apply MuRas Meister, Copies with the settings as my screen shot below (you can click on the preview pane to change their position until you get an arrangement you like).  Unsharp mask again.

Copy and paste the butterflies as a new layer on your original canvas, they should be just below the tube layer.  Resize 90% and again unsharp mask.  Erase any part butterflies from around the edge, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  Draw a selection around a couple of the butterflies and copy them, paste as a new layer, bring to the top and position above the tube.

When you are done with your butterflies, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text.
If you do not wish to continue with the animation, export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

Animation:

Click on e10 (the mesh element) to activate it and duplicate twice so you have 3 copies.  On the original copy go to Adjust – Add/Remove Noise – Add Noise, check the Uniform and Monochrome boxes and set the noise to 35.  Do the same on the second copy setting the noise to 40 and the same for the third copy setting the noise to 45.  Close of the second and third copies.

Click on the paper layer that is inside the frame and again duplicate twice so you have 3 copies.  On the first copy apply Greg’s Factory Outlet, Vol II, Pool Shadow with the settings in my screenshot below.

On the second copy, apply the Pool Shadow with these settings.

On the third copy, apply the Pool Shadow with these settings.

Close of the second and third copies.

Right click on your tag and “Copy Merged”, paste in Animation Shop “As a New Animation”.

In PSP, close off the first copy of el10 and the first copy of the paper and open the second copy of each. Copy merged again and paste in Animation Shop “Before Current Frame”.

In PSP close of both second copies and open the third copy of each, copy and paste in Animation Shop as before.

Change the Frame Properties on each layer to 35 (Animation – Frame Properties). Run your tag through the Optimization Wizard and save as a gif.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, you can email me here.  I would, as always, love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
