About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

Pirate Life for Me

In this tutorial I used the art of Alicia Mujica.
You need a license to use Alicia’s art,
you can purchase one for this tube here.

I used a fantastic kit called “Pirate Life 4 Me” by
This is really lovely kit and I so enjoyed working with it,
you can get it here.

You will also need a mask, I used mask 11 by Brutal Designs, here.

Font is Feebooter, here.

My usual reminder to you to sharpen up your elements after resizing to take away the blurriness it causes.  If you are not familiar with this, check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 80, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 600 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open SkyScraps_PL4M-pp4 and copy.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 85%.

Open SkyScraps-PL4M-E55 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45% and apply the drop shadow.  Move up and to the left a little. We will come back to this later.

Open SkyScraps-PL4M-E20 and paste as a new layer.  Drag down below E55 and place in position.

Open SkyScraps-PL4M-E23 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps_PL4M-E14, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 70% and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow (if you are using the same tube as me, I resized 75%).

Open SkyScraps-PL4M-E56 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%.

Check the positions of your layers so far.

Open SkyScraps-PL4M-E1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, drag down below the tube, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps-PL4M-E11 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps-PL4M-E15 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 25%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps-PL4M-E2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps-PL4M-E19, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Mirror, resize 25%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps-PL4M-E50 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Again check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.

Open your tube again or the close up if you have one and paste as a new layer.  Drag down so its below E55, resize and place in position inside the element, apply the drop shadow and erase any that is showing outside the element.

Open SkyScraps-PL4M-E54, paste as a new layer and drag up above E55.  Resize 35%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Finally, click on E56 (the wave), activate your erasor, set the size to 100 and the opacity to 10 and run it along the bottom of the wave a few times to blend the bottom edge into the mask.

When you are happy with everything, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have an questions, please email me here.  I would, as always, love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
