About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the fantastic art of Barbara Jensen.
You need a license to use Barbara’s art, available here.
The tube I have used comes with many layers including a PG cover up.

I used a kit called “Black Cherries” by
The kit is also available from Barbara’s store.
This is a gorgeous kit, thank you Carita!

You will also need a mask, I used Insatiable Dreams’s mask 565, here.

Font is AL Dreamboat, here.

Don’t forget to sharpen up those elements after resizing/rotating, otherwise they will be a little blurry.  For further info, check out my Tips and Tricks page.

I used a drop shadow throughout out vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 80, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 625 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open paper3 and copy.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 80%.

Open el1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%.

Open paper4 and copy.  Select the interior of both parts of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 10, make a new layer below the frame and paste the paper into the selection, deselect. We will come back to the frame when we have our main tube in position.

Open your tube, duplicate and close the original, choose your layer options then copy, paste as a new layer, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste the tube as a new layer again, mirror, resize as needed, position in the left hand part of the frame and apply the drop shadow.  Select the interior of this left hand part of the frame again, expand the selection as before, invert it, activate the tube, hit delete to remove the excess and lower the opacity to around 60.

Paste the tube again, resize slightly smaller that the copy in the left hand part of the frame, position in the right hand part of the frame and apply the drop shadow.  Select the interior of this part of the frame, expand the selection as before, invert it, activate the tube and again hit delete to remove the excess and lower the opacity to the same as the first tube.  Apply the drop shadow to the frame.  Close of your main tube, the white background layer and mask layer and merge visible, then re-open the closed layers.

Open el10 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, drag down below the merged layer, apply the drop shadow but checking the box “Shadow on a new layer”, change the blend mode to “Hard Light” and merge it down onto the shadow layer.

Open el22 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70% and rotate 10 degrees to the right.  Duplicate and mirror the duplicate.  Place both elements in position, erase the parts that show below the bottom of the merged layer and apply the drop shadow to each.

Open el11 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 70% (you will need to move it up to resize and then back down again as otherwise you wont see it), place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el8 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50% and rotate 10 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers so far.

Open el14 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70% and rotate 40 degrees to the right, drag down so its just above the mask layer, place in position so a little shows in the top, right hand corner.  Duplicate and move the duplicate so that a little shows in the bottom, left hand corner.  Apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open el11 again and paste as a new layer.   Drag it up so its just below the main tube, resize 50% and rotate 10 degrees to the left, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el24 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80% and position behind the tube.  Duplicate, resize the duplicate 80% and position to the right in the bottom corner of the frame.  Apply the drop shadow to each layer.

Open el15 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el30 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70% and position to the left of the tube.  Duplicate this layer, mirror the duplicate and position to the right of the tube.  Apply the drop shadow to each layer.

Open el13 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el26 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el16 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position on the top, left hand corner of the frame and apply the drop shadow.

Again, check the positions of your layers, when you are happy, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, you can email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
