In this tutorial I used the beautiful art of The Vintage Angel™.
You need a license to use this art,
they are available at Creative Design Outlet.
The kit I used is Inspired by The Vintage Angel 2-3 and is by
The kit is also available at Creative Design Outlet.
This is a beautiful kit Carita, thank you!
You will also need a mask, I used Monti’s circle mask, here.
If you wish to do the animation, you will need Animation Shop.
Font I used is Facebook Letter Faces, here.
The elements will need sharpening after resizing/rotating to take away the blurriness, this is particularly important on the butterfly. For more info, check out my Tips and Tricks page.
Apart from the butterfly, I used a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 75, blur 5.
Open a new transparent canvas 600 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.
Open paper1, make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask. Resize 88%.
Open el6 and paste as a new layer. Resize 75%, move up and to the right and apply the drop shadow.
Open fr3 and paste as a new layer. Resize 60% and place in position to the left.
Open paper2 and copy. Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 15, make a new layer below the frame and paste the paper into the selection, deselect. Apply the drop shadow to the frame and merge it down onto the paper.
Open your tube and paste as a new layer, resize as needed, I resized mine 75%. Place her in position and apply the drop shadow. We will blend out that hard edge later.
Open el4 and paste as a new layer. Resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.
Open el8 and paste as a new layer. Resize 75%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.
Open el9 and paste as a new layer. Resize 80%, mirror and flip and then place in position.
Open el14 and paste as a new layer. Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.
Open el13 and paste as a new layer. Resize 60%, mirror, place in position and apply the drop shadow.
Open el11 and paste as a new layer. Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.
Open wa and paste as a new layer. Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.
Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.
Click your tube to activate it and open your erasor tool. Set the size to 50 and the opacity to 10 and run it around that hard edge until its blended in.
Crop your tag and add your copyright information and text. If you are not continuing with the animation, export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as as a png.
Right click on your tag, go to "Copy Merged" and paste it in Animation Shop "As New Animation". Duplicate 3 times so you have 4 copies. We will come back to this later.
Open el7 in Paintshop, duplicate and close the original. Resize it 30% and sharpen it, I set the strength to 50. Copy it and paste it in animation shop "As New Animation".
Go to effects – Insert Image Effect. In the drop down Effect menu pick “Compress”. Set the Effect Length to 3.2 and the Frames Per Second to 1. Click on ok.
Go to File – Export Frames – To Paint Shop Pro. You will now see the frames as layers in Paintshop. Go back to Animation Shop and go to File – Export Frames – Break Link with Exported Frames. You can then delete the frames in Animation Shop.
In Paint Shop enlarge the canvas with the butterfly layers to 200 by 200 pixels. Be careful not to move the butterflies! Rotate each one 20 degrees to the right, sharpen again and apply a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 60, blur 10 to each layer.
Close off frames 1, 2 and 3. Right click on the canvas and go to “Copy Merged”. Take into Animation shop and paste "As New Animation”. Close off frame 4 and open frame 3, do the same thing but this time pasting “Before Current Frame”. Do the same thing with layers 2 and 1.
Click on the first frame in animation shop, go to Edit – Select All – Edit – Copy. Click on the first frame of your tag, again go to Edit – Select All. Right click on the first frame again and go to “Paste into Selection Frame” and paste the butterfly onto your tag. If it doesn’t look in the right place, just click the undo arrow and try again.
When you are happy with the position of your butterfly, change the frame properties of each layer to 25 (Animation – Frame Properties).
Run your tag through the optimization wizard and save as a gif. If you want to save your tag with no text so you can add names later, save as mng before going through the Wizard (check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info).
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, I certainly enjoyed writing it! If you have any questions, please email me here. I would of course love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
