About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the beautiful art of AlessiaC.
You need a license to use AllesiaC’s art,
they are available here.

The kit I used is called “Crashing Waves” and is by
You can get it here.

You will also need a mask, I used Monti’s circle mask, here.

I used the font AL Dreamboat, here.

Remember to sharpen up those elements after resizing/rotating to take away the blurriness it causes.  Check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a soft drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 50, blur 7.

Open a new transparent canvas 600 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open sb_pmt_crashing-waves-pp3 and copy.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 85%.

Open sb_pmt_crashing-waves-frame 3 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%.

Open sb_pmt_crashing-waves-pp2 and copy.  Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 10, make a new layer below the frame and paste the paper into the selection, deselect.  Apply the drop shadow to the frame and merge it down onto the paper.

Open sb_pmt_crashing-waves-net and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, drag down below the merged layer and position so a small part is showing on the left hand side of the frame.  Duplicate this layer, rotate the duplicate 50 degrees to the left and move over so its showing on the right of the frame.  Apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open sb_pmt_crashing-waves-sea floor 1, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Move it over so the left section of seaweed is positioned over the left hand side of the frame.  Erase the part on the right and the two pebbles at the front that are too far forward.

Open sb_pmt_crashing-waves-sea floor 2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  Ok, its looking a bit of a mess at the moment but don’t worry, it will work out!!

Open sb_pmt_crashing-waves-waves1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80% and place in position.  No shadow on this layer.

Open sb_pmt_crashing-waves-waves 2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize also 80%, drag down below the first waves layer and position behind it to make a bit more spray. No shadow on this layer either.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer.  Resize it 75%, drag down below both the waves layers, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  The tube has a hard base edge and the rocks extend either side so we need to erase the rocks and also the part of her tail that is showing outside the waves.  The waves are slightly transparent so you will see a bit of the hard edge of the bottom of the tube through them.  Take your erasor brush and set the size to 50 and the opacity to 10 and run it along that hard edge a couple of times until it blends into the waves.

Check the positions of your layers so far and make any necessary adjustments. I erased a bit of the sea floor 2 that was sticking out the top of her head as it looked a bit funny.

Open sb_pmt_crashing-waves-hell 3 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place it in position below the two wave layers and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_crashing-waves-sand and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, drag it right down so its just above the mask layer and place in position.  Again, no shadow on this layer.

Open sb_pmt_crashing-waves-message in bottle, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize it 35%, apply the drop shadow and position in the waves.  Take your erasor brush again with the opacity still on 10 and dab it around the bottom of the bottle until its blended into the waves and looks like its inside them.

Again, check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.  When you are happy, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, you can email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
