About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the Sweet July Collab kit which
includes the kit by SkyScraps and tube by Zlata.
The kit and tube can be purchased together in the Collab
or separately at Scraps and the City.
Again, this is a huge kit with many more elements than I have used
so you can get a few very different looking tags from it.
At the time of writing this tutorial the collab is on offer at a reduced price.

You will also need a mask, I used Weescotslass’ mask 117, here.

Font of choice.

Your elements will need sharpening after resizing/rotating to take away the blurriness it causes; check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 75, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 600 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Pick a colour red from one of the elements, I used #ac0404.  Make a new layer on your canvas, flood fill with the red and apply the mask.  Resize 90%.

Open SkyScraps-SweetJuly-E64 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55%.

Select the interior of both parts of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 5.  Make a new layer below the frame layer and flood fill with a dark colour from the tube, I used #280d10.  Do not deselect.

Open your tube and select the close up, mirror it and then copy and paste it as a new layer on your canvas, resize as needed and position inside the frame, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess tube. I had a gap at the bottom of the lower part of the frame but that will be covered by other elements.  Apply the drop shadow to the  frame and lower the opacity of the tube to around 55.  Close off the white background and mask layers and merge visible, re-open your closed layers.  Move over to the left.

Open the tube again and select your clothing options for the main tube, copy and paste as new layer on your canvas, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps-SweetJuly_E65 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%, drag down below the merged layer, place in position towards the right and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps-SweetJuly_E16 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75% and rotate 10 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps-SweetJuly-E20 and paste as a new layer.  Drag up above the merged layer, resize 75%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps-SweetJuly-E26 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps-SweetJuly-E40 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65% and place in position.

Open SkyScraps-SweetJuly-E14 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps-SweetJuly-E8 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 35%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps-SweetJuly-E52 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps-SweetJuly-E21, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 40% and apply the drop shadow, place in position erasing some so the hat is between the tube's legs.

Open SkyScraps-SweetJuly-E55 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps-SweetJuly-E44 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 20% and duplicate, mirror the duplicate, place both butterflies in position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.  When you are happy, crop your tag, add your copyright information and text and export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here.  I would of course love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
