About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I am using the art of Pinuptoons.
You need a license to use Pinuptoons’ art,
I purchased mine from CILM but they
are now available here.

I used a gorgeous new kit called “Nautical” by
You can get it here.
Thank you Chassity!

You will also need a mask, I used Weescotslass’ mask 133, here.

Font of choice.

Remember to sharpen those elements up after resizing/rotating or they will be a little blurry!  If you are not familiar with sharpening elements, check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 60, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 550 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used PDS_N- paper1.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, de-select and apply the mask.  Resize 90%.

Open PDS_N- frame2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%.  Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 5.

Open PDS_N- paper8.  Make a new layer on your canvas below the frame layer, paste the paper into the selection and de-select.  Merge the frame layer down onto the paper layer. I erased the peg at the top of the frame when I had my tube on as it looked like it stuck out of the top of her head!

Open PDS_N- welcomeaboard, duplicate and close the original.  Resize 58%. Select the interior of the lifebuoy with your magic wand and expand the selection by 10.  Open PDS_N- paper5.  Make a new layer below the lifebuoy and paste the paper into the selection, do not de- select.  Open your tube and paste as a new layer, resize as needed and position nicely in the lifebuoy, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess tube, de-select.  Apply the drop shadow to the tube and merge it down onto the paper layer. Apply Paintshop texture blinds effect with the width set to 2, the opacity to 50, colour white and both Horizontal and Light from left/top boxes checked.  Apply the drop shadow to the lifebuoy, merge visible, copy and paste on your main canvas and over a bit to the right.

Open PDS_N_ rocks and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%, drag down so its just above the mask layer, place in position on the left and apply the drop shadow.

Open PDS_N- glitter, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 60% and rotate 10 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube again and paste as a new layer, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open PDS_N- starburst and paste as a new layer.  Drag down below merged lifebuoy layer and place in position on the top, left hand corner of the frame.

Open PDS_N- net and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55% and place in position.  I didn’t put a shadow on this layer.

Open PDS_N- flower1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 35% and duplicate, mirror the duplicate and resize it 90%, place both flowers in position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Open PDS_N- bucket and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open PDS_N- bottle1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open PDS_N- leaves1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, place in position, erase the stalk that is showing to the right of the tube and apply the drop shadow.

Open PDS_N- shell3 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open PDS_N- driftwood2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open PDS_N- string5 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open PDS_N- shell1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open PDS_N- bead1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 20% and duplicate, resize the duplicate 80% and mirror it, place both beads in position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Open PDS_N-parrot and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 35%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments, when you are happy, crop your tag and resize if required, add your copyright information and text and export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, you can email me here.  I would love to see your result and include it the gallery!
