About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I am using the beautiful art of Dori Hartley.
You need a license to use Dori’s art,
available at Deamscape Imaging
(at the time of writing this tutorial there is a
40% off Valentine/Love sale).

I am using a kit called “Sentimental” by
This is a really gorgeous kit and is available
in full size here and here
and in tagger size here.
I used the tagger version.
Thank you Jo, really loved this kit!
Check out Jo’s blog for some beautiful freebie
word art to go with the kit.

You will also need a mask, I used Babes Designz mask 32.
Unfortunately Babes has removed her blog so I have uploaded the mask for you here.

Font used is Be My Valentine,
a free font, you can get it here.
The tutorial includes instructions for the text.

As always, the elements will need sharpening after resizing/rotating to take away the blurriness it causes (adjust – sharpen – unsharp mask, radius and clipping 5, strength 30).

Unless otherwise stated in the tutorial, I used a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 70, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used CBJ_Sentimental_Paper4.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, de-select and apply the mask. If you are using the same mask as me, you need to have “invert mask data” checked. Resize 85%, move over to the left, duplicate and move the duplicate over to the right. You can make any adjustments later.

Open CBJ_Sentimental_RoundFrame and paste as a new layer. Resize 75%.

Open another of the papers and copy, this time I used CBJ_Sentimental_Paper2.  Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 10, make a new layer below the frame layer and paste the paper into the selection, de-select. Go back to the frame layer and apply the drop shadow. Merge the frame layer down onto the paper layer and move over slightly to the right.

Open CBJ_Sentimental_FloralFrame and paste as a new layer. Resize 50%.

Select another paper from the kit and copy, I used CBJ_Sentimental_Paper12. Select the interior of this frame with your magic wand, expand the selection as before, make a new layer below the frame and paste the paper into the selection, do not de-select.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer. Resize as required and position nicely in the frame, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess tube. Apply the drop shadow to both the frame and tube layers. Merge the tube layer down onto the paper layer, copy it, paste it as a new image and minimise it, we will use it later. Back on your main canvas, merge the frame layer down onto the merged tube/paper layer and move over a little to the left.

Open CBJ_Sentimental_Scatter and paste as a new layer. Resize 50% and position along the bottom of the merged tube layer.

Open CBJ_Sentimental_Blossom and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 35%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_Sentimental_SilkPlant and paste as a new layer. Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_Sentimental_FoldRibbon and paste as a new layer.  Resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_Sentimental_Bird and paste as a new layer. Resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Minimize your tag for a while.

Open CBJ_Sentimental_ChromeHrt, duplicate and close down the original. Bring up the merged layer that you minimised, copy it, paste it as a new layer and drag it down below the chrome heart. Resize so it fits nicely in the heart, I resized mine 30%.  Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand by 5, invert the selection, activate the merged tube layer and hit delete to remove the excess. Apply the drop shadow to the Chrome Heart.  Open CBJ_Sentimental_Pin3 and paste as a new layer.  Rotate 80 degrees to the left and place in position. Erase a part of the pin so it looks like its going through the bow and then apply the drop shadow.  Merge visible, copy, bring up your tag and paste it as a new layer. Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_Sentimental_HrtWord2 and paste as a new layer. Resize 53%, drag down so its just above the mask layer and place in position.

Open CBJ_Sentimental_Swirl and paste as a new layer. Resize 45% and place in position so it shows on the left hand side. Duplicate, mirror and flip the duplicate and position on the right hand side. Apply the drop shadow to each layer but change the opacity to 40.

Check the positioning of your masks and elements and when you are happy, crop your tag, resize as required and add your copyright information.

Open the font, pick white for your foreground colour and a colour from the kit for your background colour. Type your name and apply an inner bevel as in my screenshot below. Unsharp mask on the text, place in position and apply the main drop shadow.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here. I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
