About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I am using the beautiful art of  Rossana Castellino.
You need a license to use Rossana’s art,
available at Dreamscape Imaging.

I am using a kit called “Steampunk Dreams” by
You can get the kit here.
I just love steampunk, thank you Sarah!

You will also need Chili Designz mask
“Steampunk Evenings”,
which you can get here,
it was posted in February.

Font used is Camponile,
a free font which you can get here.

As always, don't forget to sharpen your elements after resizing and rotating.  This is essential for a good looking tag (adjust – sharpness – unsharp mask – radius and clipping 5, strength 30).

Drop shadow used throughout is vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 75, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used sb_pmt_steampunk-dreams_pp9.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all and paste the paper into the selection. Do not de-select.

Open the mask, copy and paste as a new layer on your canvas. Resize the mask 30%. As you already have the canvas selected, go to selection float – selection de-float, selection – invert, click on the paper layer to activate it and hit delete, de-select. Delete the Chili mask layer.

Open sb_pmt_steampunk-dreams_frame 1 and paste as a new layer. Resize 80%. Select the interior of each part of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 15.

Open a new paper and copy, this time I used sb_pmt_steampunk-dreams_pp8. Paste the paper as a new layer below the frame, resize 80%, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess paper. Do not de-select.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer. Resize if required and position inside the left hand part of the frame, when you are happy with the position of the tube, hit delete to remove the excess. Open your tube again and mirror, copy and paste as new layer, do the same with this tube positioning it in the right hand part of the frame. Lower the opacity on both tubes to around 60. Go back to the frame layer and apply the drop shadow. Close off the background and mask layers and merge visible, you can then re-open the closed layers.

Open sb_pmt_steampunk-dreams_frame2 and paste as a new layer. Resize 35%, drag down below the merged layer and place in position so its showing below the top, left hand corner of the frame. Apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_steampunk-dreams_frame3 and paste as a new layer. Resize this also 35%, place in position so its showing below the bottom, left hand side of the frame and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_steampunk-dreams_beads1 and paste as a new layer. Resize 50% and place in position again towards the top, left hand side. Duplicate this layer and position towards the bottom, right hand side. Apply the drop shadow to each layer.

Open sb_pmt_steampunk-dreams_leaves2 and paste as a new layer. Mirror, resize 80% and position so the leaves are showing at the bottom, left had side of the frame. Duplicate this layer and position below the top, left hand side of the frame. Apply the drop shadow to each layer.

Open sb_pmt_steampunk-dreams_greenery3 and paste as a new layer. Flip, rotate 10 degrees to the left, resize 80% and place in position on the top, right of the frame. Apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_steampunk-dreams_greenery1 and paste as a new layer. Rotate 80 degrees to the right, resize 80%, place in position over the last greenery and apply the drop shadow. Erase the small part of the frame layer so that the end part of this element is over the top of the frame.

Open sb_pmt_steampunk-dreams_clockface and paste as a new layer. Resize 80%, position on top of the frame and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_steampunk-dreams_compass and paste as a new layer. Mirror, resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sub_pmt_steampunk-dreams_glasses and paste as a new layer. Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube again and paste as a new layer. Place in position and apply the drop shadow. On my tube, as it was cut off at the bottom, I used my erasor on size 50 and opacity 10 and dabbed around the bottom of the tube to blend it into the mask.

Crop your tag and resize if required, add your copyright information and text.  I used Alien Skin, Eye Candy 5, Impact, Chrome on my font. Export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here. I would love to see your result and add it to the gallery!
