About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

Cold day of Winter

In this tutorial I am again using the fabulous art of Alicia Mujica.
You require a license to use Alicia’s art,
you can get one here.
Please note that you need a specific license for Alicia’s art.

I am using a beautiful kit called “Cold day of Winter” by
This is a gorgeous kit and its made me feel really cold doing this tag lol.
You can get the kit here.
Thank you Cora!

You will also need a mask, I used Melissaz Creationz mask 1, here.

Font used is Krystal, a free font which you can get here.

**********

Don’t forget to sharpen your elements after resizing/rotating to take away the blurriness (effects – sharpen – unsharp mask – radius and clipping 5, strength 30).

Drop shadow used throughout is vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 70, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 600 by 600 pixels and floodfill with white.

Open pd-pp-07 and copy. Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection and apply the mask. Resize the mask 80% and lower the opacity to around 55.

Open pd-gears and paste as a new layer. Resize 60%, move over slightly to the right and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube, copy and paste as a new layer. Resize as required, place in position towards the left and apply the drop shadow.

Open pd-glitter-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 80%, drag down below the tube and gear layers and position so the glitter is showing on the left hand side. Duplicate this layer, mirror and flip, then position so just a small bit is showing on the right hand side erasing any that you don’t want showing. Apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open pd-snowbank-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 70% and place in position so its showing at the top and right of the gears and tube.

Open pd-leaves-02 and paste as a new layer. Mirror, resize 80%,  rotate 20 degrees to the right, place in position on the right hand side and apply the drop shadow. Erase the part of the stalk that is showing below the gears.

Open pd-beads-01 and paste as a new layer. Mirror, rotate 20 degrees to the left, resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open pd-leaves-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 75%, place in position on the left behind the tube and apply the drop shadow.

Open pd-beads-02 and paste as a new layer. Resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow. Again erase out the part of the stalk that shows.

Open pd-star-01, paste as new layer and bring it up so its just below the tube. Resize 20% and duplicate twice, place in position and apply the drop shadow to each layer.

Open pd-wind and paste as a new layer. Resize 70%. Position the wind so its wrapped around the tube and erase the part that would be behind her.

Open pd-bird-02 and paste as a new layer. Resize 30% and apply the drop shadow. I positioned the bird on the text.

Check the positioning of all your layers and make any adjustments. Crop your tag and resize if required. Add your copyright information and text. I used Alien Skin, Eye Candy 5, Impact, Glass plugin on my text. Export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here. As always, I would love to see your result!
