About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I am using the beautiful art of Jessica Galbreth
from her Vintage Angel Collection.
You require a license to use Jessica's art,
you can get one here.

I am using an amazing new kit by Creationz by Jo called
“Colour Pops”.
This kit is exclusive to Dreamscape Imaging and comes in six different colourways.
You can buy the kits separately or the entire set at a discount.

You will also require a mask.
I used Insatiable Dreams mask 498, here.

If you wish to do the animation, you will also need Animation Shop.

Don’t forget to sharpen your elements after resizing/rotating to take away the blurriness (effects – sharpen – unsharp mask – radius and clipping 5, strength 30).

Drop shadow used throughout is vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 70, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open CBJ_CPMM_P4 and copy. On your canvas, make a new layer, select all, paste the paper into the selection and apply the mask.

Open CBJ_CPMM_Clockface and paste as a new layer. Resize 70% and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer. Resize if required and place in position, apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_CPMM_Plant and paste as a new layer. Rotate 90 degrees to the right, resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_CPMM_Flowerbunch and paste as a new layer. Resize 65%   and duplicate.  Rotate the original layer 90 degrees to the left. Position the layers around the clockface and apply the drop shadow to each layer.

Open CBJ_CPMM_Toadstalls and paste as a new layer. Mirror, resize 55%, drag the toadstalls down so they are between the two flowerbunch layers, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_CPMM_Cat and paste as a new layer. Resize 35% and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_CPMM_Lantern, paste as a new layer and bring to the top. Resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_CPMM_Bow3 and paste as a new layer. Resize 25%, paste in position on the hanger part of the lantern and apply the drop shadow.

Open CBJ_CPMM_ScatterFlowers and paste as a new layer. Resize 50%, drag the layer down until it is just above the mask layer and place in position on the left hand side. Duplicate this layer and move the duplicate over to the right hand side. Apply the drop shadow to both layers

Check the position of all your elements and resize your tag if required. Apply your copyright information and text. If you do not wish to do the animation, save as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

Now for the animation:

Close the eye on all your layers apart from the bottom background layer, the mask layer and the two scatter flower layers. Click on one of these layers to activate and merge visible. Rename this layer "Background” and then close it off.

Open the clockface layer and click I on it to activate it, rename it “Clockface”. Close off this layer.

Open all the remaining layers, that’s all the layers apart from the newly named layers Background and Clockface. Click on one of the layers to activate and merge visible. Rename this layer “Top” and then close it off.

Open the Clockface layer, copy it and paste it in animation shop as a new animation. Go to effects – insert image effects – underwater. Set the effects length to 2 secs and move the Frames per Second slider along until you have 4 frames. Click on customize and change your settings like my screen shot below. Don’t worry about getting the waves exactly the same, something similar is just fine. Click on ok, it will go back to the first settings, click on ok again. Your clockface will now have 5 frames, the first frame doesn’t animate so activate that frame and delete it, do the same with the second frame as otherwise the file size is too big, 3 frames is fine.

Back in PSP, close off the clockface layer and open the Background layer, copy it and paste in animation shop as a new layer. This layer needs to have the same number of frames as your clockface so duplicate it twice so you have 3 frames. Click on Clockface to activate it, go to edit – select all – edit - propagate paste, click on Background to activate it, go to edit – select all, right click on the layer and paste the clockface “into selected frame”, one copy will paste into each frame.

Back in PSP, open Top, copy it and paste in animation shop as a new layer. Duplicate so you have 3 copies and then do the same as you did for the clockface layer, pasting it in each frame of your animation.

Now the animation will run too fast so we need to slow it down, to do this go to edit – select all, then go to animation – frame properties and change the display time to 30.

Put your animation through the animation wizard and save as a gif.

Dont forget that if you want to make your tag up in animation shop and save it without any text so you can add names later, just put it together and then save it as a mng.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any problems or would like your tag featured in my gallery, please email me here
