About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I am using a beautiful mermaid tube by Elias Chatzoudis.
You require a license to use Elias’ art,
you can get one here.

I am using an awesome kit called “Atlantis” by
This is a fabulous kit to work with,
thank you Cora!
You can get the kit here.

You will also require a mask, I used Monti’s circle mask, here.

I used another font by Jellyka called Estrya's Handwriting.
This is a free font and you can get it here.

Don’t forget to sharpen your elements after resizing and rotating, essential for a good looking tag (adjust – sharpness – unsharp mask – radius and clipping 5, strength 30).

Open a new transparent canvas 550 by 500 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers, I used pd-pp0-04 and copy. Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, de-select and apply the mask. Resize 90%.

Open pd-spray3 and paste as a new layer. Resize 90%.

Open pd-sand and paste as a new layer. Resize 70% and move down.

Open pd-lifesaver and paste as a new layer. Resize 80% and move over slightly to the right. Apply a drop shadow vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 70, blur 5.

Open pd-waves-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 75%.

Open pd-mesh-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 60%, move down and apply a drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 1, opacity 50, blur 3.

Open pd-sea-grass-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 80%, place in position towards the left and apply the same drop shadow as you did for the lifesaver layer.

Open pd-sand-castle and paste as a new layer. Resize 45%, place in position and apply the last drop shadow but this time check the box “shadow on a new layer”. With your erasor tool on size 50 and opacity 10, dab around the shadow of the loose sand at the bottom of the element and erase it.

Open your tube, paste as a new layer and place in position. I mirrored my tube, resized it 75% and applied the last drop shadow. I then cut and pasted part of her hair and brought it above the sand castle layer.

Open pd-bottle and paste as a new layer. Resize 25%, rotate 10 degrees to the right, drag down below the sand castle, place in position and apply the last drop shadow.

Open pd-bubbles-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 25%, place in position between the bottle and the sandcastle and apply a lighter drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 1, opacity 30, blur 3.

Open pd-bubbles-02 and paste as a new layer. Resize also by 25%, place in position and apply the same drop shadow as the first bubbles.

Open pd-jelly-fish and paste as a new layer. Resize 25% and place in position. Apply the last drop shadow.

Open pd-jelly-fish2 and paste as a new layer. Resize 15%, place in position and apply the same drop shadow.

Open some of the fish, resize and place in position, apply the heavier drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 70 and blur 5.

I used:

pd-fish-01, resized 20% and mirrored
pd-fish-02, resized 15%
pd-fish-04, resized 15%

Open some more of the elements, resize and position nicely on your tag. Apply the last drop shadow to each element.

I used:

pd-shell-02, resized 15% and mirrored.
pd-pearl, resized 10%.
pd-shell-03, resized 15%
pd-starfish-01, resized 20%
pd-shell-01, resized 15%

Open pd-splash-02 and paste as a new layer. Resize 60% and place in position on top of all the other elements.

Crop your tag and resize as required. Apply your copyright information and text and export as a jpg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here.
