About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I am using the art of Martin Abel.
You require a license to use Martin's tubes which I purchased from CILM.
Martin now sells his tubes/licenses at Creative Design Outlet.

I am using Pimp’d Designz awesome scrapkit
“Music 2 My Ears”.
You can purchase the kit here.

You will also need a mask. I used Becky’s Mask 023.
Becky no longer has her site but she allows her masks to be shared.
You can get the mask here.

You will need Animation Shop if you wish to animate your tag.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open pd-musicnote-05 and paste as a new layer. Resize 80% and apply a drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 70, blur 5.

Open pd-frame01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 45%, move the frame below the music notes, place in position and apply the same drop shadow. Erase the part of the music notes that go over the frame on the top, left hand side so it looks like the notes go through the frame.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer. I resized mine 90%. Add your drop shadow, place in position in the frame and remove any excess at the bottom.

Open pd-print03 and paste as a new layer. Resize 80%, drag below the frame and position.

Open pd-stars-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 50% and place in position. Apply your drop shadow but change the opacity to 50.

Open some of the buttons, resize 30%. Position them around the frame as in my tag and apply the drop shadow with the opacity back to 70.

Open pd-lp-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 25%, place in position and apply your drop shadow.

Open pd-tape and paste as a new layer. Resize 25%, place in position and apply your drop shadow.

Open pd-shoe and paste as a new layer. Resize 50% and place in position.  If you are not doing the animation, apply your drop shadow, otherwise we will apply it later.

Open pd-wa-03 and paste as a new layer. Resize 50%, drag it down below the shoe, place in position and apply your drop shadow.

Open pd-pp-07, click on your bottom white layer, make a new layer, select all and paste the paper into the selection. Apply your mask. I resized the mask 80%.

Crop your tag and resize if required, then add your copyright information and text. Export as a jpeg if you are not doing the animation.

To do the animation we will be using the warp brush. Set it to “push”, size around 250 - the brush needs to be quite large but if you have resized your tag, make it a little smaller.  Duplicate your shoe, hold the tip of the warp brush on the toe (see my screenshot below for a rough guide to position), hold down the left mouse button and lift the toe of the shoe upwards very slightly, it only needs to move a very small amount.

The warp brush makes things a little blurry so now we need to sharpen it up a bit. Use your sharpen brush to do this, have it the same size as your warp brush with the opacity on 70 and click once or twice in roughly the same place as you held the warp brush.  Apply your drop shadow to both shoe layers.

Close out the duplicate shoe layer, right click on your tag and copy merged, open Animation Shop and paste as a new animation. Back in paintshop, close that shoe layer and open the duplicate, copy merged again and paste in Animation Shop “after current frame”. Change the animation properties on both frames to 30. Put your animation through the optimization wizard and save.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any problems, please email me here.
