About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the awesome new layered tube “Rosette”
from the latest pack 76 from
This tube includes open and closed eyes which enables the animation.
You can purchase the tube at

I used the awesome kit “Dead Inside” from
This kit can also be purchased at

I used mask 71 by

Font is

You will need Animation Shop for the animation.

I used a drop shadow of vertical 0, horizontal 5, opacity 95, blur 10.

Open a new transparent canvas 750 by 700 pixles and fill with white.

Make a new layer, select all, paste paper 2 into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.

Paste element 12, resize 95%, move down a bit and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 4, resize 60% and rotate 10 degrees to the right, duplicate, rotate the duplicate another 10 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Paste element 5, mirror it, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 1, resize 60% and place in position.  Select the interior of the element with your magic wand, expand the selection by 20, make a new layer below it and paste paper 2 into it.  Paste your close up tube mirrored as a new layer, resize it 60%, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess, deselect.  Change the blend mode on the tube to “Soft Light” and apply the drop shadow to the frame.

Paste the tube with the eyes closed, resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 28, resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 18, resize 50%, mirror, rotate 70 degrees to the left,  drag below the tube, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 2, resize 40% and rotate 50 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 13, resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 3, resize 40%, duplicate, mirror the duplicate, position the mirrored copy on the left of the tube, drag the original copy above the tube, duplicate and mirror the duplicate again, place in position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Paste element 24, resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 26, resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 15, resize 90%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  Drag the two top roses above this element.

Paste element 19 on the top, resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check your layers now and make any necessary adjustments; I made my mask a tiny bit larger.  When you are happy, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text.

Animation:

Duplicate the tube. Paste the open eyes from the tube layer, resize 80% (or the same as you resized the main tube), position them on the duplicate tube. To get them in the exact place, use your mover tool to get them as close as possible, then keeping the mover tool anywhere on the tag, use the arrow keypad to move them one pixel at a time.  When you have them in the right place, merge them down onto the copy tube.

Close off the original tube, right click on your tag, copy  merged and paste it in Animation Shop as a new animation.  Back in Paint shop, close off the copy tube, open the original and paste it in Animation Shop “Before current frame”.  Change the frame speed on both frames to 200 (Animation – Frame Properties).

When you are done, run your tag through the Optimization Wizard and save it as a gif.
