About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the beautiful tube “Emerald”
from the latest pack 65 from
Barbara Jensen.
You can purchase the tube at

The kit is “Old News” by
The kit can also be purchased at

I used mask 141 from

Font is “Impact” which is a
Windows font.

Unless otherwise noted, I used a drop shadow of vertical 0, horizontal 5, opacity 75, blur 10.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 650 pixels and fill with white.

Make a new layer, select all, paste paper 5 into the selection and apply the mask.

Now flip the mask, make another layer on your canvas, paste the paper again into the selection, deselect and apply the flipped mask.  Merge this mask layer down onto the original and resize it 90%.

Paste element 20, resize it 90% and then move it up being careful to keep it centred horizontally (you can do this easily by clicking on the element with your mover tool and moving it pixel by pixel with the arrow keys).  Apply a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 0, opacity 75, blur 10 then repeat the shadow.

Paste element 2 resize 55% and move over to the right.  Select the interior of the element with your magic wand, expand the selection by 20, make a new layer below it and paste paper 10 into the selection.  Open the tube, duplicate and close the original, select your layers, copy merged, paste as a new image and mirror it, then copy it again and paste on your canvas, resize 90% and position in the frame, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess, deselect.  Apply the drop shadow to the frame (remember to change the settings).

Paste element 24, resize 55%, position on the original bow and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 15, mirror, resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  Close off the white background layer, merged mask layer and clock face and merge visible then re-open the closed layers.  Duplicate this merged frame layer, mirror the duplicate and move it over to the left.

Paste element 27, resize 75%, drag below both merged frame layers, position on the right and apply the drop shadow (be sure to give this element a good sharpen or it will be spoilt).  Duplicate, mirror the duplicate and position on the left.

Undo the mirror on your tube, copy it and paste it again on the top, resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 11, resize 55%, mirror and rotate 20 degrees to the left, drag below the main tube, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 13, resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 8 and bring to the top, resize 50% and duplicate, resize the duplicate another 90%, place in position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Paste element 6, resize 45% and position between the two yellow flowers, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Change your foreground colour to #c6802a with the stroke set to 3, it doesn’t matter what colour your background is.  Open the font and type your name in lower case on the top, use the nodes to get it the right size then convert it to a raster layer.  Select the text, float it and defloat it, contract the selection by 3, invert it and then right click on the text layer in your layers pallete and “Promote Selection to Layer”, deselect.  Apply an inner bevel to this promoted layer using my settings in the screenshot.

Go back to the original text layer, again select it, float and defloat it but this time contract the selection by 2, paste paper 2 as a new layer, it should be between the original text and the promoted layer, resize the paper 70%, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess.  Invert the selection, make a new layer and go to Effects -3D Effects – Cutout and apply using the settings in the screenshot below, deselect.

Click on the promoted layer, merge it down onto the cutout layer and then merge that layer down onto the paper layer and apply the drop shadow.  You can delete the original text layer.

Paste element 9, resize 60% and mirror, drag below the text, position on the right and apply the drop shadow, duplicate, mirror the duplicate and move over to the left.

Paste element 27 and bring to the top, resize 30% and duplicate, place in position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Check your layers and make any necessary adjustments, then crop your tag, add your copyright informatiion and text and export on a transparent background as a png.
