Waxing Crescent

In this tutorial I used the amazing art of
You need a license to use Enamorte’s art, available at

The kit is called “Waxing Crescent” by
This kit is really awesome with many, many
more elements, papers and frames than I have used!
I can be purchased at

I used mask 133 from

Font of choice.

Unless otherwise noted, I used a drop shadow of vertical 0, horizontal 5, opacity 85, blur 10.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and fill with white.

Make a new layer, select all, paste paper 9 into the selection, deselect and apply the mask, resize 95%.

Paste smudged 2 as a new layer and resize 80%.

Paste smudged 1 as a new layer and resize 70%.

Paste clock as a new layer, resize 75%, move up and to the left a little and apply a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 0, opacity 100, blur 10.

Paste path as a new layer, resize 65%, place in position and apply the main drop shadow.

Paste grass 2 as a new layer, resize 65%, drag below the path, position on the left and apply the drop shadow.

Paste your tube as a new layer on the top, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  I resized my tube 75%.

Paste kite as a new layer, resize 55%, drag below the tube, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste flowers 1 as a new layer, resize 65% and mirror, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste grass 1 as a new layer, resize 70%, position behind the tube and apply the drop shadow.

Paste floral as a new layer, flip and mirror, resize 50% and rotate 20 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste grass 2 again and bring to the top, resize 60%, position in front of the tube and apply the drop shadow.

Check your layers now and make any necessary adjustments.

Paste water as a new layer, resize 55% and place in position just above the clock.

Paste cloud as a new layer, resize 65%, drag below the water and place in position.

Paste word art 2 as a new layer, resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste ribbon 3 as a new layer, resize 55% and rotate 90 degrees to the right, drag above the tube, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste umbrella as a new layer and bring to the top, resize 43%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste candle as a new layer, resize 25% and duplicate, place in position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Paste concoction as a new layer, resize 22%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste leaf as a new layer, resize 20%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Again, check your layers and then put this canvas to one side.

Open frames 1, duplicate and close the original.  Resize 35% with the box “Resize all layers” checked then enlarge the canvas to 400 pixels square, make a new layer below the frame and fill with white, just so you can see easier what you are doing.

Select the interior of each part of the frame with your magic wand, expand the selection by 3 and make a new layer below it and paste paper 4 into the selection, deselect and greyscale the paper (check out my Tips and Tricks page with help on recolouring).

Now select each part of the frame individually and, using my tag for reference, paste your tube and position in each section resizing and mirroring as needed, then hit delete to remove the excess. When you have done, deselect and recolour the tubes in different colours picked from the kit.

Apply the drop shadow to the frame, delete the white background layer, merge visible, then copy and paste on your original canvas and place in position, it should be below the candle and concoction layers.

Paste stars as a new layer, resize 70% and apply the drop shadow but changing the horizontal to 2 and blur to 5, place in position doing some erasing so the element is wrapped around the tube and the merged frame layer.

Paste smoke as a new layer, resize 70% and position between the main tube and the grass above it.

Paste brushed clocks as a new layer on the top, resize 70% and place in position.

Paste crows as a new layer on the top, resize 35%, place in position and apply the drop shadow (remember to change the settings back).

Once again, check those layers, check also on a black background, I  had to erase a few bits of the smudged layer that were too far outside the tag.  When you are all done, crop your tag, add your copyright information and text, then export on a transparent background as a png.
