Holiday Magic

In this tutorial I used the gorgeous layered tube “Candy Kisses”
from the latest pack 63 by
Barbara Jensen.
You can purchase Barbara’s tube from

The beautiful kit is “Holiday Magic” by
The kit can also be purchased at

I used the Winter Mask 8 from

Font of choice.

The animation uses one of the layers on the tube
and is easy but a bit fiddly.

I used a drop shadow of vertical 0, horizontal 5, opacity 85, blur 10.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 650 pixels and fill with white.

Make a new layer, select all, paste paper 4 into the selection, deselect and apply the mask, resize 85%.

Paste element 1 as a new layer, resize 70% and apply the drop shadow.

Open the tube, duplicate it and close the original, pick your layers but do not include the Fun Lashes layer, copy merged and paste as a new layer on your canvas, resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 19 as a new layer, resize 60%, drag below the tube and position on the right, duplicate, mirror the duplicate and position on the left, apply the drop shadow to each.

Paste element 27 as a new layer, resize 35%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 8 as a new layer, resize 35% and mirror, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 13 as a new layer, resize 50%, mirror and rotate 40 degrees to the left, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 11a as a new layer, resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 21 as a new layer, resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 2 as a new layer, resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 30 as a new layer and bring to the top, resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 19 again, resize 50% and flip, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 16 as a new layer, resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 11 as a new layer, resize 25% and rotate 10 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 28 as a new layer, resize 35%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Paste element 29 as a new layer, resize 25% and duplicate twice, position one on the top on the left, one below the purple bauble on the right and one below the tube at the top, apply the drop shadow to each.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments, then crop your tag and add your copyright information and text.  If you are not continuing with the animation, export on a transparent background as a png.

Animation:

Duplicate the tube and close the copy off.

Copy the Fun Lashes layer and paste it on your canvas just above the tube, resize it 60% or the same as you resized your tube.  Now zoom in making your canvas really big so you can see what you are doing,  I zoomed in 200%.  Position the fun lashes on your tube, this is easy to do if you use the up and down arrow keys (use the mover tool to get the lashes as close as possible in position then, keeping the mover tool active and somewhere on the canvas, use the arrow keys to move the lashes one pixel at a time).  Duplicate the lashes and close off the top copy, move the original down below the hidden copy tube and merge them down onto the original tube.  Close off this layer and open the copy tube and copy lashes.

Erase the top part of the lashes just leaving the ones at the bottom.  Click on the tube to activate it, open your Airbrush tool, set it to size 3 and set your foreground colour to black and paint in the tube’s eye black.  Now merge the lashes down onto the tube.  Close this layer off, open the original and zoom back out.

Right click on your tag, copy merged and past it in Animation shop as a new animation.  Back in PSP, close off this copy of the tube and open the second one, again copy merged and paste in animation shop “after current frame”.    Change the frame properties on the first frame to 300 and on the second frame to 20 (Animation – Frame Properties), run through the Optimization Wizard and save as a gif.
