About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the art of
PinUp Toons.
You need a license to use PinUp Toons’ art, available from

I used a fabulous kit called “Birthday Cheer” by
This is a gorgeous kit with some beautiful elements
and can be purchased at
Dee's store.

You will also need a mask, I used mask 230 by

Font of choice, I used 2Peas Weathervane.

Please check out my “About my tutorials” page before starting if this is the first tutorial of mine you have followed.

I used a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 70,  blur 10.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and fill with white.

Open and copy Paper_2, make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.

Open Frame_1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60% and move up a little.   Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 20, make a new layer below it and fill with a pale colour from the kit, I used #ffebeb, deselect.  We will come back to this.

Paste your tube as a new layer, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  I used tube 2 resized 80%.

Open Element_19 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 50%, drag down to just above the mask and position on the left.  Duplicate, move the duplicate over to the right and erase the  bottom of the strings.  Apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open Element_43, paste as a new layer and drag up to just below the tube.   Resize 45% and position on the right, duplicate, mirror the duplicate and position on the left.  Apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open Element_6 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Element_5, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.   Resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Element_26 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Element_3 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Element_35 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 30% and rotate 90 degrees to the left, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Element_27 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Element_24 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check your layers now and make any adjustments.

Paste the tube again, drag it down below the frame, resize if needed, duplicate, mirror the duplicate and position either side of the main tube.  Select the interior of the frame and expand as before, then hit delete on each tube to remove the excess, deselect and apply the drop shadow to the frame and the tubes.  Merge the top tube down onto the bottom one and then merge that layer down onto the paper and apply the blinds texture with width set to 2, opacity to 50, colour white and Light from left/top checked, repeat the blinds texture with Horizontal also checked.

Open Wordart and paste as a new layer below the main tube.  Resize 75% and place in position.

Open Spray_6 and paste as a new layer above the main tube.  Resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Spray_7 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 60% and place in position.

Open Spray_4 and paste as a new layer above the birthday cake.  Resize 60%,  place in position and erase the part that covers the candle so it goes behind it.

Open Element_38 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 50% and position on the left.  Duplicate and position the duplicate on the right.  Duplicate again and position in the middle.  Erase the parts that overlap and apply the drop shadow to each.

Open Element_15, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.   Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Element_16 and 16b and paste as a new layer.   Resize 20%, place in position and apply the drop shadow. I rotated mine a little.

Open Element_17 or 17b and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.
