About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the tube “Pure Platinum” from
Layered back 43 by
Barbara Jensen.
The tube can be purchased from

The gorgeous kit is called “My Everything” by
and is also available at

You will also need a mask, I used mask 565 by

The animation is done in Animation Shop
and is very simple.

I used the font

Please check out my “About my tutorials” page before starting, thank you.

I used a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 80, blur 10.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 650 pixels and fill with white.

Open pp10 and copy.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 80%.

Open el14 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 65% and rotate 20 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el4 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el2 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el6 and paste as a new layer.   Mirror, resize 80% and rotate 20 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el16 and paste as a new layer.   Flip, rotate 90 degrees to the right and resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el9 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70% and place in position.

Open pp10 again and copy, select the interior of el9 and expand the selection by 20, make a new layer below it and paste the paper into the selection, deselect.  Apply the drop shadow to the frame and merge it down onto the paper.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer, resize as needed and place in position.  If you are not using one of Barbara’s tubes you need to make sure the artist allows the colour change.  Go to Adjust – Hue and Saturation – Colorize and change the Hue to 28 and the Saturation to 60.  Apply the drop shadow.   I resized my tube 65%.

Open el11 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror,  resize 60%,  place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el18 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el10 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el29  and paste as a new layer.   Resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el27 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el20 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 65% and rotate 10 degrees to the right, drag down to just above the tube, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el1 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 60% and rotate 10 degrees to the left, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el3 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60% and rotate 20 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el7, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.   Resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el24 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el26 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 45% and rotate 20 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el28 and paste as a new layer.   Mirror, resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments, then crop your tag and add your copyright information and text.

Right click on your tag, go to “Copy Merged”, open Animation Shop and paste it as a new animation.  Duplicate the tag until you have 7 frames.

Back in Paint Shop, open el9, resize it 33% and apply the drop shadow, make a new layer, then copy it merged as you did the tag and paste in animation shop as a new animation (you need to make the new layer so you can copy merged because you need some space around the butterfly).  Go to Effects – Insert Image Effect and pick Compress, change the Frames Per Second to 3 which will give you 7 frames, then click OK.  Now go to Animation – Rotate and rotate the butterfly 30 degrees to the left.

Go to Edit – Select all – Edit – Copy  to copy all the butterfly frames, then click in the first frame of your tag to activate it  and go to Edit – Select All, right click on the tag again and “Paste into Selected Frame”, position the butterfly on the left.

Now go back to the butterfly animation, go to Edit – Select All, then go to Animation – Mirror. Activate frame 1 by clicking on it, right click and “Cut”, activate the last frame, right click and “Paste After Current Frame”.  Do the same thing with 2 more frames.  We are doing this so the two butterflies are not flapping their wings at exactly the same time.  Now copy the butterfly as you did before and position it on the right of the tag.

When you are done, run your tag through the Optimization Wizard and save as a gif. If you want to save your tag without the text so you can add it later, save it as a mng (more info on my Tips and Tricks page).
