About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used a tube by Alex Prihodko,
for which you need a license, available at

I used a fantastic kit “Mysterious Midnight” by
This is an awesome kit with 38 papers and 120 elements
and can be purchased at

I used two masks in my tag, mask 565 by
and Big Mask 017 by
Vix.

Font is

Please check out my about my tutorials page before starting the tutorial, thank you.

I used a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 85, blur 10.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open Mysterious Midnight (31) and copy.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection and apply Insatiable Dreams mask.  Resize 90.

Open Mysterious Midnight (40) and copy.  Make another layer on your canvas,  paste the paper into the selection and apply Vix’ mask, deselect.  Resize 110%.

Open Mysterious Midnight (42) and paste as a new layer.  Move down and erase the little longer bit that sticks out at the bottom.

Open Mysterious Midnight (93) and paste as a new layer.   Resize 40%, position in the top, left  corner and apply the drop shadow.

Open Mysterious Midnight (96) and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, position on the right and apply the drop shadow.

Open Mysterious Midnight (58) and paste as a new layer.   Resize 40%, position in the top, right corner and apply the drop shadow.

Open Mysterious Midnight (44) and paste as a new layer.   Resize 35%, position on the left and apply the drop shadow.

Open Mysterious Midnight (73) and paste as a new layer.  Resize 5%, position bottom, right and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  I resized my tube 35%.

Open Mysterious Midnight (7) and paste as a new layer.   Resize 50%, drag down below the tube and place in position.  Go to Adjust – Hue and Saturation – Colorize and change both values to “0”, hit ok, apply the drop shadow.

Open Mysterious Midnight (13) and paste as a new layer.   Resize 40%, drag down below the clock, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Mysterious Midnight (21) and paste as a new layer.   Drag up so it’s below the tube, resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Mysterious Midnight (72) and paste as a new layer.   Mirror,  resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Mysterious Midnight (24) and paste as a new layer.   Resize 80% and place in position on the left.  Duplicate and move the duplicate over to the right.  Erase the parts that overlay with the join hidden behind the tube and apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open Mysterious Midnight (105) and paste as a new layer.   Resize 30% and duplicate, place both elements in position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Open Mysterious Midnight (4) and paste as a new layer.   Resize 70% and place in position, change the hue and saturation as you did before and then use your Change to Target tool to recolour the jewel red (you will find info on recolouring with this tool on my Tips and Tricks page), apply the drop shadow.

Open Mysterious Midnight (119) and paste as a new layer.   Resize 85%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Mysterious Midnight (17) and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Mysterious Midnight (23), paste as a new layer and bring to the top.   Resize 38%.  Select the interior with  your magic wand and expand the selection by 20, make a new layer below and fill with black.  Do not deselect.

Open your tube again and paste as a new layer, resizing as needed, position inside the frame, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess.  Deselect.  Lower the opacity of the tube to around 50.  I resized the tube 40% this time.

Open Mysterious Midnight (30) and paste as a new layer.   Resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Mysterious Midnight (20) and paste as a new layer.  Resize 25% and rotate 10 degrees to the left, drag down below the cat, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Mysterious Midnight (38) and paste as a new layer.  Flip, resize 45% and rotate 25 degrees to the right, drag down below the mask and position so it show on the left, duplicate and move the duplicate over to the right, erase the any parts that overlap hiding the join behind the mask, apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments, when you are done, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.
