Dark Shadows

In this tutorial I used the art of Psyco Jimi.
Jimi very generously allows his art to be used free of charge,
however you do need a license,
they are available here.
Thank you so much Jimi!

The kit I used is called “Cut Throat” and is by
I love this kit and it’s the second tutorial I have written using it.
You can get the kit here.

You will also need a mask, I used Insatiable Dreams mask 565, here.

You will also need my fog tube,
I have uploaded it for you here.

Font is “An Unfortunate Event Dewarped”, here.

Don’t forget to sharpen up those elements after resizing/rotating.  This is essential for a good looking tag as otherwise it will be a little blurry.  Check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 85, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 600 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open SkyScraps_CT_pp1 and copy.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 83%.

Open SkyScraps_CT_E32 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, move up and to the left a little and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps_CT_E40 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60%.  Place in position on E32 lining up the bottom left hand part of the cobweb onto the edge of E40 and then carefully erase out the rest of the cobweb that comes outside the element.  Apply the drop shadow to the cobweb.

Open SkyScraps_CT_E51 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, move up and to the right a little and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps_CT_E7 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%.  Line this up on the tombstone like in my screen shot below.  The blood must go over the top of the tombstone and we want it dripping down the side.

Click on the tombstone to activate it, go to Selections – Select All - Selections Float_Selections Defloat – Selections Modify - Expand with number of pixels 1 - Selections Invert.  Now go back to the blood and erase the part at the top of the tombstone, you will only be able to erase the part you don’t need as the selection will stop you erasing the part that is on the stone and we don’t want to erase the blood that is dripping down the side of the stone which would happen if we just hit delete.   This is what you should have now.

Open the tube and paste it as a new layer.  Resize it 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps_CT_E49 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50% and rotate 30 degrees to the right,  drag down below the tube, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps_CT_E18 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60% , mirror and place in position.

Open SkyScraps_CT_E35 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 25%, place in position on the cobweb and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps_CT_E26, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  Erase the part of the tube that shows at the bottom of this element.

Open SkyScraps_CT_E45 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 35%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps_CT_E31 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 35%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps_CT_E33 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, drag down so its just above the tube, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps_CT_E20 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 25%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps_CT_E41 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70% and rotate 90 degrees to the left, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open my fog tube and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, drag down so its just above the tube and place in position.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.  When you are happy, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!

Red Riding

In this tutorial I used SkyScraps part of the awesome “Little Red” Collab
which features two fantastic kits by SkyScraps and Gemini Creationz.
You can purchase the kits together as the Collab or separately at

The tube I used is again by SkyScraps and is also called Little Red.
You need a license to use this tube, also available at Scraps and the City.

I used two masks in my tag, Gemsmask11 and Gemsmask 22,
you can get them here
(they are both in set 1).

Again I used the font Ammonite, here.

Don’t forget to sharpen up those elements after resizing/rotating!!!  Check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 85, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open SkyScraps-LittleRed-PP2 and copy.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply Gemsmask22.  Resize 90%.

Make another new layer on your canvas and flood fill with a dark red, I used #630c0c.  Apply gemsmask11.  Resize 90% and move over a little to the right.

Open SkyScraps-LittleRed-E40 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60% and move over to the left.

Open SkyScraps_LittleRed-E53 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45% and move over to the right.

Open SkyScraps-LittleRed-PP5 and copy.  Select the interior of E53, the frame and expand the selection by 5, make a new layer below it and paste the paper into the selection, do not deselect.

Open your tube or close up if you have one and paste it as a new layer, resize as needed and position inside the frame.  If you are using the same tube as me, resize it 80%.  Invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess tube, deselect.  Lower the opacity of the tube to around 55 and apply the drop shadow to the frame.

Open SkyScraps-LittleRed-E37 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65%, drag down below the frame/tube/paper layer and move over to the left.

Open SkyScraps-LittleRed-E41 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80% and place in position.  Your tag should look something like my screenshot below now.

Paste your main tube on now so you can see better where to position the rest of the elements and bring it to the top, resize as needed and apply the drop shadow.  I used the tube without the wolf and resized it 62%.

Open SkyScraps-LittleRed-E49, paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, drag it down below the main tube, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps-LittleRed-E20 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80% and place in position.

Open SkyScraps-LittleRed-E10 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps-LittleRed-E13 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 50%, drag it down below E10 and position so the wolf is peeking round from behind the tree.  Erase all but his head peaking out and apply the drop shadow.

Open SkyScraps-LittleRed-E11 and paste as a new layer.  Drag it up so its just below the main tube.  Resize 70% and duplicate.  Rotate the original 10 degrees to the right and  place in position on the right of the tube.  Drag the duplicate down below the E20, rotate 10 degrees to the left and place in position towards the left.  Erase the stalks that show at the bottom and apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open SkyScraps-LittleRed-E51 and paste as a new layer.  Drag up if you need to so its just below the main tube, resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.  When you are happy, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Again I have very much enjoyed using this kit. If you have any questions, please email me here and don’t forget to send me your result so I can include it in the gallery!

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 85, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used gemini_littlerred_paper4.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 88%. There is a little bit of a straight edge on the right hand side of the mask, I blended it out with my erasor on a low opacity.

Open gemini_littlered_pinetree and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%, move over to the left and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_littlered_bricks and paste as a new layer.  Resize 85%, move over to the left and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_littlered_frame3 and paste as a new layer. Resize 60% and move a little up and to the right.

Open your tube or the close up if you have one, mirror it, then copy and paste it as a new layer, resize as needed and position inside the frame, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess tube, deselect.  Set the blend mode on the tube to “Soft Light” and apply the drop shadow to the frame.

Open gemini_littlered_tree, paste as a new layer and make sure its on the top.  Resize 70% and duplicate.  Position one copy on the left hand side, drag the second copy right down until its just above the mask layer and position so a little shows on the right of the frame.  Apply the drop shadow to each layer.

Open your main tube, paste as a new layer and bring to the top (remember to undo the mirror if you need to).  Resize the tube as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_littlered_doodle2 and paste as a new layer.   Mirror, resize 60% and rotate 10 degrees to the left, drag down below the tube, place in position on the left and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_littlered_mushroom and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position on the left and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_littlered_mushroom2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65%, place in position behind the tube and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_littlered_lantern and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_littlered_acorns and paste as a new layer.  Resize 20% (you will have to bring them to the top to resize and then move them back down as you wont see them behind the tube), place in position in front of the lantern and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_littlered_flower3 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position on the right and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_littlered_flower5 and paste as a new layer.  Resize also 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_littlered_sparkles and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40% and place in position.

Open gemini_little red_basket and paste as a new layer.  Resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.

Open gemini_littlered_beadsnoshadow and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50% and drag right down until its just above the mask layer then place in position on the left hand side.  If there are any that stick out a bit too much, erase them.  Duplicate this layer twice.  Mirror and flip one of the duplicates, then place it in position on the right.  Rotate the second duplicate 90 degrees to the right and postion along the to. Apply the drop shadow to each layer.

That’s it, we are done! Crop your tag and add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.  I hope you enjoyed this tutorial; I loved working with this kit!  If you have any questions, please email me here.  I would, as always, love to see your result and include it in the gallery!

Open Ribbon01_InspMarika4_Schnegge and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 70%, place in position, erase the part that shows at the bottom of the tube and apply the drop shadow.

Open Puppy_InspMarika4_Schnegge and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments. I erased the top, right hand corner of the frame that stuck out above the tube’s head.

Click on your tube to activate it and then duplicate it.  Mirror the duplicate, drag it down so its immediately below the frame layer, position inside the frame and apply the drop shadow.  Again select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection as before, activate the tube again and hit delete to remove the excess.  Lower the opacity of the tube to around 55 and apply the drop shadow to the frame.

Crop your tag and add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, you can email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!

Feathers

In this tutorial I used the beautiful art of The Vintage Angel™.
You need a license to use this art,
they are available at Creative Design Outlet.

The kit I used is Inspired by The Vintage Angel 2-3 and is by
The kit is also available at Creative Design Outlet.
This is a beautiful kit Carita, thank you!

You will also need a mask, I used Monti’s circle mask, here.

If you wish to do the animation, you will need Animation Shop.

Font I used is Facebook Letter Faces, here

The elements will need sharpening after resizing/rotating to take away the blurriness, this is particularly important on the butterfly.  For more info, check out my Tips and Tricks page.

Apart from the butterfly, I used a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 75, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 600 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open paper1, make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 88%.

Open el6 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%, move up and to the right and apply the drop shadow.

Open fr3 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60% and place in position to the left.

Open paper2 and copy.  Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 15, make a new layer below the frame and paste the paper into the selection, deselect.  Apply the drop shadow to the frame and merge it down onto the paper.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer, resize as needed, I resized mine 75%.  Place her in position and apply the drop shadow.  We will blend out that hard edge later.

Open el4 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el8 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el9 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, mirror and flip and then place in position.

Open el14 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el13 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60%, mirror, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el11 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open wa and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.

Click your tube to activate it and open your erasor tool.  Set the size to 50 and the opacity to 10 and run it around that hard edge until its blended in.

Crop your tag and add your copyright information and text.  If you are not continuing with the animation, export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as as a png.

Animation:

Right click on your tag, go to "Copy Merged" and paste it in Animation Shop "As New Animation".  Duplicate 3 times so you have 4 copies.  We will come back to this later.

Open el7 in Paintshop, duplicate and close the original.   Resize it 30% and sharpen it, I set the strength to 50.  Copy it and paste it in animation shop "As New Animation".

Go to effects – Insert Image Effect.  In the drop down Effect menu pick “Compress”.  Set the Effect Length to 3.2 and the Frames Per Second to 1.  Click on ok.

Go to File – Export Frames – To Paint Shop Pro.  You will now see the frames as layers in Paintshop.  Go back to Animation Shop and go to File – Export Frames – Break Link with Exported Frames.  You can then delete the frames in Animation Shop.

In Paint Shop enlarge the canvas with the butterfly layers to 200 by 200 pixels.  Be careful not to move the butterflies!  Rotate each one 20 degrees to the right, sharpen again and apply a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 60, blur 10 to each layer.

Close off frames 1, 2 and 3.  Right click on the canvas and go to “Copy Merged”.  Take into Animation shop and paste "As New Animation”.  Close off frame 4 and open frame 3, do the same thing but this time pasting “Before Current Frame”.  Do the same thing with layers 2 and 1.

Click on the first frame in animation shop, go to Edit – Select All – Edit – Copy.  Click on the first frame of your tag, again go to Edit – Select All.  Right click on the first frame again and go to “Paste into Selection Frame” and paste the butterfly onto your tag.  If it doesn’t look in the right place, just click the undo arrow and try again.

When you are happy with the position of your butterfly, change the frame properties of each layer to 25 (Animation – Frame Properties).

Run your tag through the optimization wizard and save as a gif.  If you want to save your tag with no text so you can add names later, save as mng before going through the Wizard (check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info).

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, I certainly enjoyed writing it! If you have any questions, please email me here.  I would of course love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
