About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the fabulous art of Barbara Jensen,
for which you need a license,
available at her store here.

The kit I used is called "New Years Eve" by
This is a lovely kit and I had great fun working with it.
Thank you Carita!
You can get the kit also at Barbara's store.

You will also need a mask, I used Vix Big Mask 017, here.

Font is Big Fish Ensemble, here.

Resizing and rotating elements makes them a little blurry so we need to sharpen them; for more info, check out my Tips and Tricks page.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 80, blur 5.

Open a  new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open pp7 and copy, make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.

Open el21 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 95%, position towards the top, left hand corner and apply the drop shadow.

Open el22 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65% and place in position.  We will come back to this element shortly.

Open el8 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 85%, drag down below el22 and place in position.

Open your tube, paste as a new layer and bring to the top, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  If you are using one of Barbara's tubes, open it, duplicate and close the original, make your layer options, copy merged and paste on your canvas.  I resized my tube 70%.

Now we have these elements in position we can go back to el22.  Select the interior of it with your magic wand and expand the selection by 20, open your tube again, or the close up if you have one and paste it as a new layer, resize as needed, position inside the element, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess.  Do not deselect. I used the close up tube resized at 70%.  It doesn’t matter what colours you use as we are going to change the blend mode.

Open pp8, paste as a new layer and resize it 60%. Drag it down below the close up tube, lower the opacity on the tube to around 50 so you can see what you are doing and position the paper so the clock  numerals show nicely on her face.  When you are happy with the positioning of the paper, hit delete to remove the excess, deselect, put the opacity of the tube back up to 100% and change the blend mode to overlay, then apply the drop shadow to the frame.

Now you need to do the same thing with the left hand part of el8.  You can only expand the selection here to 2 to keep the paper and tube inside the square.  I resized the tube 50% and the paper 35%.

Open el3c and paste as a new layer immediately below the main tube.  Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el3 and paste as a new layer.  Resize also 80%,  mirror, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el13b and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el13 and paste as a new layer.  Resize also 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, duplicate, mirror the duplicate, place both elements into position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Open el2b and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70% and flip, place in position, erase the bottom part of the hanger and apply the drop shadow.

Open el16b and paste as a new layer.   Resize 60%, position to the left of the main tube, duplicate and bring the duplicate to the top, place in position and apply the drop shadow to both elements.

Open purse3 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el25d and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el19 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el18 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40% and rotate 10 degrees to the left, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open el6 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.

Open el10 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, drag down so its just above the mask, mirror and flip and position so it shows in the top, right hand corner.  I erased a few bits that were too far out.  Duplicate this layer a couple of times and position around the edge of your tag.  Apply the drop shadow to each layer.

When you are done, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, I certainly enjoyed writing it!  If you have any questions, you can email me here and don't forget to send me your result, I love to see them and include them in the gallery!
