In the Night

In this tutorial I used the art of  Matt Busch.
You need a license to use Matt's art, available at

I used a gorgeous kit inspired by this tube 2-2 by
The kit is also available at Creative Design Outlet.

You will also need a mask, I used Gem's mask 22, here.

Font of choice.

Remember to sharpen your elements after resizing/rotating. This is essential for a good looking tag as otherwise it will be a little blurry; check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow of vertical 0, horizontal 5, opacity 85, blur 15.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 550 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used Paper02_IBmattbusch22_Schnegge.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 85%.

Open Moon_IBmattbusch22_Schnegge and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, move up and to the right and apply the drop shadow.

Open Tree_IBmattbusch22_Schnegge and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Tombstone_IBmattbusch22_Schnegge and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Frame02_IBmattbusch22_Schnegge and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60% and move over to the left.

Open Paper06_IBmattbush22_Schnegge and copy.  Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 20, paste the paper as a new layer below the frame, resize it 30%, position in the frame, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess, deselect.  We will come back to this later.

Open Gargoyle_IBmattbush22_Schnegge and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55%, drag down below the frame and paper layers, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Watch_IBmattbush22_Schnegge and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube, paste as a new layer and bring to the top. Resize as needed (if you are using the same tube as me, I resized it 80%), place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers so far.

Open Flower02_IBmattbusch22_Schnegge and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, drag down below the tube and position so a little shows to the right of her.  Duplicate, mirror the duplicate and position on the left.  Apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open Flower01_IBmattbusch22_Schnegge and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Chalis_IBmattbusch22_Schnegge and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Bird_IBmattbusch22_Schnegge and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Urn_IBmattbusch22_Schnegge and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Candles_IBmattbusch_Schnegge, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open Leaves01_IBmattbusch_Schnegge and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.

Duplicate your tube, drag the duplicate down so its between the frame and the paper below it and position inside the frame.  Again select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 20, invert the selection, activate the tube and hit delete to remove the excess, deselect.  Change the blend mode on the tube to "Soft Light" and apply the drop shadow to the frame.

Crop your tag and add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
