About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the fabulous art of Barbara Jensen.
You need a license to use Barbara’s art.
This tube is from her latest pack 32 and is available here.

The kit I used is called “Indian Summer” by
This is a beautiful kit, I loved the colours and textures in it.
You can get it here.

You will also need a mask, I used Weescotslass’ mask 133, here.

Font is Penyae Regular, here.

Don’t forget to sharpen up those elements after resizing/rotating.  This is essential for a good looking tag as otherwise it will be a little blurry.  You can check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 80, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open gemini_indiansummer_p9 and copy.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 93%, duplicate, mirror the duplicate and reduce the opacity to 50%.  Close off your white background layer and merge visible, re-open the closed layer.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e41, paste as a new layer and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e35, paste as a new layer and resize 90%.

Open gemini_indiansummer_p5 and copy.  Select the interior of e35 with your magic wand and expand the selection by 10, make a new layer and paste the paper into the selection,  deselect.  Drag this layer down below e35 and e41 and apply the drop shadow to e35.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer.  If you are using one of Barbara’s layer tubes, duplicate and close the original, make your layer selections, copy merged and paste as a new layer.  Resize your tube as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e38 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%, drag down so its just above the mask layer and position so a bit of the leaves show on the right hand side, apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e30 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80% and rotate 20 degrees to the left, position so the leaves show on the left hand side and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e27 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%, position so some shows on the left hand side and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e14 and paste as a new layer.  Drag up so its just below the tube,  resize 60% and rotate 10 degrees to the right, position on the right of the tube and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e67, duplicate and close the original.  Resize 45% and rotate 10 degrees to the left.  Open gemini_indiansummer_p5 again and copy.  Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 10, make a new layer below it and paste the paper into the selection.  Open your tube again and paste as a new layer, resize as needed, position inside the frame towards the left hand side, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess tube.  Apply the drop shadow to the tube and the frame, change the blend mode on the tube to hard light and lower the opacity to around 80, copy merged, paste as a new layer on your canvas and position on the left of the main tube.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e5, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 40%, place in position on the left hand side and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e10 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, position on top of the previous element and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e19 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 30%, place in position on the right hand side and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e6 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 35%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e54 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e36 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e62 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e7 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gmeini_indiansummer_e13 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e42 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 25%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e1 and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e43 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 20%, drag down below the last element, e1 and place in position.  Duplicate, mirror the duplicate, drag down below e2 and place in position.  Apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open gemini_indiansummer_e46, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 20% and flip, duplicate and mirror the duplicate, place both butterflies into position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.  When you are done, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, I very much enjoyed writing it!  If you have any questions, you can email me here and please remember to send me your result, I love to see them and include them in the gallery!
