About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

I have left this tutorial on for reference
but it appears unfortunately that Lina's kits
are no longer available.

In this tutorial I used the art of Marco Guaglione.
I obtained my license to use this tube from PSP Tubes Emporium,
unfortunately Marco no longer sells his art as tubes for PSP hobbyists
but the kit includes two nice poser tubes.

The kit I have used is a really beautiful free to use kit by
Lina’s Designz called “Little China Girl”, you can get it here
(you will need to go back a few pages to find it or use the search box).
Thank you Lina, this is a gorgeous kit!

You will also need a mask, I used Gem’s mask 22, here.

Font is Bonzai, here.

Your elements will need to be sharpened after resizing as this causes them to be a little blurry; if you are not familiar with sharpening, check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 75, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 650 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open LD_Asian_Festival_Paper(2) and copy.   Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 80%.

Open LD_Little_China_Doll_Dressing_Shade and paste as a new layer.  Resize 22%, move over to the right and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Cherry_Blossoms and paste as a new layer.  Resize 35%, drag down below the Dressing Shade, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Rug, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 18%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Statue(2) and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Vase and paste as a new layer.  Resize 15%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Kokeshi_Doll and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Frame(4) and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40% and place in position.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Paper(6) and paste as a new layer.  Drag down below the frame, resize 50% and position nicely in the frame.  Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 20, invert it, activate the paper and hit delete to remove the excess.  Apply the drop shadow to the frame and merge it down onto the paper.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Umbrella and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 85%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Lamp and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Cat and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube, paste a new layer, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers so far and make any necessary adjustments.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Fire_Dragon and paste as a new layer.  Resize 25%, drag down below the tube and place in position.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Plant, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 5%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Flower and paste as a new layer.  Resize also 5%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open LD_Little_China_Girl_Cherry_Blossom  and LD_Little China_Girl_Cherry_Blossom(2) and paste each as a new layer, resize them 8%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Crop your tag and add your copyright information.

Choose two colours from your tag for your font, I used #e1b23a for the foreground and #b91805 for the background.  Open the font, set your stroke width to 2.0 and type your name, convert to a raster layer.  Go to Selections – Select all – Selections Float – Selections Defloat - Selections Modify – Contract, set the number of pixels to 2. Make a new layer, go to Effects – 3D effects – Cutout, set the Horizontal and Vertical to 2, Opacity 80 and Blur 3, click on OK, deselect.  Merge this layer down onto the name and apply the drop shadow.

When you are done, export your tag as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed the tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
