About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used the art of Keith Garvey.
You need a license to use Keith’s art, available here.

The kit I used is called “Batter Up” by
You can get it here.

You will also need a mask, I used Monti’s circle mask, here.

Font is Brannboll Fet, here.

Remember to sharpen up those elements after resizing as otherwise they will be a little blurry.  Check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 75, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open sb_pmt_batter-up_pp14 and copy.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 85% and lower the opacity to around 65.

Open sb_pmt_batter-up_frame 6 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%.  Will come back to this in a moment.

Open sb_pmt_batter-up_field and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65%, drag down below the frame, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open your main tube, paste as a new layer and bring to the top, resize as needed, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_batter-up_pp13 and copy.  Activate the frame and select the interior of the left hand part with your magic wand, expand the selection by 5, make a new layer below the frame and paste the paper into the selection.  Do not de-select.

Open your tube again or the close up if you have one and paste as a new layer.  Resize as needed and position inside the frame, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess tube.  Apply the drop shadow to the tube and change the blend mode to “Luminance (Legacy)”. Deselect.

Activate the frame again and select the interior of the right hand part with your magic wand, expand the selection again by 5.  Open sb_pmt_batter-up_pp5 and copy.  Make a new layer below the frame and paste the paper into the selection.  Do not deselect.

Open the tube/close up again and mirror, copy and paste as a new layer, resize and position inside the frame as you did before, invert the selection, hit delete, apply the drop shadow to the tube and change the blend mode as before.

Apply the drop shadow to the frame.

Open sb_pmt_batter-up_print 1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, drag down so its just above the mask layer and place in position.

Open sb_pmt_batter-up_fence and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70% and rotate 10 degrees to the left, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_batter-up_mit and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_batter-up_flag and paste as a new layer.  Drag up so its just below the main tube,  resize 65%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_batter-up_pop and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_batter-up_ticket and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45% and rotate 10 degrees to the left, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_batter-up_hat and paste as a new layer.  Mirror, resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_batter-up_ball and paste as a new layer.  Resize 30%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_batter-up_ribbon 1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_batter-up_hot dog and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.  When you are happy, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text.  For the text, the swashes are numbers 0 to 9.  I used 9 and did it on a separate layer as I needed to use a smaller font size, I then merged the two together and rotated it 5 degrees to the left.

When you are done,  export your tag as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.  If you have any questions, please email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
