About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I used an awesome tube called “Dark Pixie”
and a matching kit “Darkness Falls” both by
The tube and kit can be purchased at

You will also need a mask, I used Weescotslass’ mask 133, here.

I used the front Morpheus, here.

Your elements will need to be sharpened after resizing/rotating as otherwise they will be a little blurry.  Check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

I used a drop shadow throughout of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 80, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 600 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used gemini_darknessfalls_p3.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask.  Resize 90%.

Open gemini_darknessfalls_e16 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60% and move a little up and to the right.  Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 5.

Open gemini_darknessfalls_p3 and copy, make a new layer below the frame and paste the paper into the selection.  Do not de-select.

Open the tube, mirror it, copy and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position in the frame, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess.  Apply the drop shadow to both the frame and the tube layers and change the blend mode on the tube to “hard light”.

Open gemini_darknessfalls_e18 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60%, move down and to the left and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_darknessfalls_e53 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_darknessfalls_e52 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_darknessfalls_e26 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80% and place in position.

Open gemini_darknessfalls_e45 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_darknessfalls_e41 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 50%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Your tag should now look something like my screenshot below although of course you can make any adjustments later.

Open your tube again, undo the mirror and paste as a new layer.  Resize 37%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_darknessfalls_e2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 65% and rotate 40 degrees to the right.  Drag down below the tube, place in position on the left hand side of her and erase the stalk.  Duplicate this layer and mirror the duplicate, apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open gemini_darknessfalls_e39 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_darknessfalls_e34 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 35%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_darknessfalls_e37 and paste as a new layer.  Flip, resize 55%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_darknessfalls_e35 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.

Open gemini_darknessfalls_e28 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60%, drag right down so its just above the mask layer and place in position.

Open gemini_darknessfalls_e59 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80% and place in position.  Duplicate, rotate the duplicate 110 degrees to the right and place in position.  Apply the drop shadow to both layers.

Open gemini_darknessfalls_e11, paste as a new layer and bring to the top.  Resize 45%, place in position so it looks like they are falling from the crystal the tube is holding and apply the drop shadow.

Open gemini_darknessfalls_e1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55% and place in position.  Open your erasor tool and set the size to around 50 and the opacity to 10 and blend out the straight edge on the left hand side of this element.

Open gemini_darknessfalls_e14 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 25% and duplicate twice.  Rotate one butterfly 40 degrees to the left, one 40 degrees to the right and one 25 degrees to the right.  Place in position and apply the drop shadow to each.

Again, check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments.  When you are happy, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text.

For the text, I made a gradient using the colours #30b9ff and #35227c as in my screenshot below.

I then applied an inner bevel as below and then the drop shadow.

When you are done, export your tag as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, you can email me here.  As always, I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
