About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I am using the art of Anna Liwanag.
You need a license to use Anna’s art,
you can get one here.

The kit I have used is by PolkaDot Scraps and is
part of the huge collab "Tech Savvy" by five awesome designers at
Pimp My Tags w/Scraps store.
The collab is free with a $10 purchase.
You can check it out here.

You will also need a mask, I used HorsePlay’s mask 19, here.

Font used is 256 Bytes, you can get it here.

Remember to sharpen up those elements after resizing/rotating as otherwise they will be a little blurry, check out my Tips and Tricks page for more info.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 550 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used PDS_TS-paper8.  Open another new canvas, this time 650 by 450, select all, paste the paper into the selection, deselect and apply the mask. Copy the mask and paste it onto your original canvas, you can then close this one.

Open PDS_TS-laptop and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%.

Open PDS_TS-paper5 and copy.  Select the interior of the screen of the laptop and expand the selection by 5, make a new layer below the laptop and paste the paper into the selection.  Do not de-select.

Open the close up of the tube, mirror it and paste as a new layer on your canvas, resize as needed and position nicely in the laptop screen, invert the selection and hit delete to remove the excess tube, deselect. Apply a drop shadow to both the laptop and the tube layers of vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 70, blur 5 and lower the opacity of the tube to around 50.

Open the tube again, paste it as a new layer and bring to the top.  Position the tube across the laptop keyboard resizing as necessary and apply the drop shadow.

Open PDS_TS-print and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, drag down to just above the mask layer, place in position and apply the drop shadow but changing the vertical and horizontal to 1 and blur to 3.

Open PDS_TS-note and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60% and rotate 10 degrees to the right, place in position and apply the drop shadow changing the horizontal and vertical back to 2 and the blur to 5.

Open PDS_TS-tictactoe and paste as a new layer.  Resize 55% and rotate 10 degrees to the left, place in position and apply the last drop shadow.

Open PDS_TS-leaves1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 90%, place in position, erase the part that shows below the bottom of the laptop and apply the last drop shadow.

Open PDS_TS-flower1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 30%, place in position and apply the last drop shadow.

Open PDS_TS-phone and resize 40%.  Select the interior of the screen with your magic wand and expand the selection by 5.  Open paper5 again, make a new layer below the phone and paste the paper into the selection, do not deselect.  Open your tube again, undo the mirror, paste as a new layer and  position in the screen resizing as needed, invert the selection, hit delete to remove the excess tube and lower the opacity to around 50.  Copy merged and paste on your canvas, rotate 10 degrees to the left, place in position and apply the last drop shadow.

Open PDS_TS-button2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 30%, drag up so its above the laptop and place in position.  This element already has a drop shadow so no need to add another.

Open PDS_TS-scatter1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments. When you are happy, crop your tag and add your copyright information and text, then export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here.  I would, as always, love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
