Sugar and Spice

In this tutorial I am using the art of Pinup Toons.
You need a license to use Pinup Toons’ art,
you can get one here.

I am using part of a beautiful collab kit called “Cupcake Surprise”.
The collab includes kits from five awesome designers:
In this tutorial I have used elements from the kits by
Designs by Sarah and TK Dezigns.
You can get the kits here.

You will also need a mask, I used Brutal Designs mask 11, here.

I used Filters Unlimited 2 paper texture.
If you don’t have Filters Unlimited you can use your own texture.

I used a free font called Bright Young Things,
you can get it here.

As always, remember to sharpen your elements after resizing/rotating so they are not blurry (adjust – sharpen – unsharp mask, radius and clipping 5, strength 30).

Drop shadow used is vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 70, blur 5.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used sb_pmt_cupcake_suprise_pp7.  Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection and apply the mask. Resize 85%.

Open tk-cupcaksesurprise-element21 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 75%.  Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 20.

Open another of the papers and copy, this time I used tk-cupcakesurprise-paper 2.  Make a new layer below the frame layer and paste the paste into the selection.  Save the selection to the alpha channel as we will need it again later (selections – load/save selection – save selection to alpha channel).  De-select.  The frame already has a shadow so no need to add another.

Open sb_pmt_cupcake_surprise_frame5 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, drag down below the first frame and paper layers, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube, paste as a new layer and bring to the top, resize as necessary, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_cupcake_surprise_bow1 and paste as a new layer.   Resize 80%, drag down below the tube layer and position on the frame, apply the drop shadow.

Open tk-cupcakesurprise-element15 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open tk-cupcakesurprise-element16 and paste as a new layer.  Again, resize 70%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open tk-cupcakesurprise-element1 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 40%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open tk-cupcakesurprise-element2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 45%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_cupcake_surprise_chocolate2 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open sb_pmt_cupcake_surprise_chocolate1 and paste as new layer.  Resize also 80%, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open tk-cupcakesurprise-element28 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 60% and rotate 65 degrees to the left, drag down below the two chocolate layers, place in position and apply the drop shadow.

Open your tube again and paste as a new layer. Mirror and resize if needed but leave larger than the main tube.  Drag this layer down so its between the main frame and paper layer, place in position and apply the drop shadow.  Bring up the selection you saved (selections – load/save selection – load selection from alpha channel), invert it and hit delete to remove the excess tube.  Lower the opacity to around 60, merge the tube down onto the paper layer and apply Filters Unlimited 2, Paper Texture, Canvas Fine with Intensity set to 65 and Lightness to 87.

Check the positions of your layers and make any necessary adjustments, then crop your tag and resize if required, add your copyright information and text and export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, you can email me here.  I would love to see your result and include it in the gallery!
