About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I am using the art of Angela Newman.
You require a license to use Angela's tubes
which I purchased from AMI.
Angela now sells her tubes/licenses at Mypsptubes.

I am using a fabulous new kit by Pimp’d Designz called
Shabby Little Me.

You will also need a mask.
I used Boundless Bliss grungemask 1.
Unfortunately Theresa no longer has her site but I believe she allows
her masks to be shared, you can get it here.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open pd-glitter-02 and paste as a new layer. Resize 65% and unsharp mask (adjust – sharpness – unsharp mask, radius and clipping 5, strength 50). Apply a drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 70, blur 5.

Open pd-glitter-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 80%. Duplicate this layer, mirror and flip. Unsharp mask on both layers as before, place in position and apply the same drop shadow as the first glitter layer.

Open pd-frame-02 and paste as a new layer. Resize 85%. Apply a drop shadow, this time with horizontal and vertical 5, opacity 60 and blur 10.

Open pd-frame-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 65%. Click inside the frame and expand the selection by 10. Open a paper, I used pd-pp-02. Make a new layer below the frame and paste the paper into the selection, de-select. Go back to the frame layer and apply the same drop shadow as for the first frame. Place you two frames and paper in position.

Open pd-swirl-02 and paste as a new layer. Rotate to the left 90 degrees and resize 50%. Unsharp mask as before. Position this layer as in my tag below the frame layers. Duplicate this layer, mirror and flip and place in position on the other side of the frames. Erase any part of the stalks that show from below the frames. Apply a drop shadow to both layers the same as the glitter layers.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer, place in position on top of the frames and apply the same drop shadow as for the frames.

If you are using the same tube as me, which has a transparent skirt, apply the drop shadow on a separate layer and carefully erase the part of the shadow inside her skirt as it gives it a dark look, then merge the tube down onto the shadow layer. Draw a selection around the bottom part of the tube as in my screenshot below then go to edit -cut. Right click and paste the part you cut as a new layer, drag it down below the frame layer and position the two parts back together erasing any that shows below the bottom of the frame.  Doing it this way instead of erasing around the frame gives a nice clean look and keeps any part of the frame shadow showing over the tube.

Open pd-flowers-03 and paste as a new layer. Resize 60%, place in position and apply the same drop shadow as for the frames and tube.

Open pd-ribbon-03 and paste as a new layer. Resize 32% and apply the same drop shadow.

Open pd-heart-02 and paste as a new layer. Resize 80% and paste and place in position, apply the same drop shadow.

Open pd-bird-01, paste as a new layer and mirror. Resize 50% and apply the same drop shadow.

Open one of the papers, I used pd-pp-07. Apply your mask to the paper, copy it and paste as a new layer above your white background layer. Resize 50% and place in position.

Crop your tag and resize if required.  Apply your copyright info and text and export as a jpeg.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any problems, please email me here.

Another quick tutorial using Pimp’d Designz versatile kit

In this tag I am using one of CEI’s Half Pints tubes.
You require a license to use CEI's tubes
which can be purchased from mypsptubes.

You will also need a Mask.
I used Becky’s mask 023.
Becky no longer has her site but she allows her masks to be shared.
You can get it here.

Open a new transparent canvas 600 by 650 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open pd-print-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 80%.

Open pd-frame-03 and paste as a new layer. Resize 60% , select the inside of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 10. Open one of the papers, I used pd-pp-08 which I recoloured more lilac to compliment my tube. Make a new layer below the frame layer and paste the paper into the selection. Go back to the frame layer and apply a drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 60, blur 10.

Open pd-wings and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80%, rotate 15 degrees to the left and unsharp mask (adjust – sharpness – unsharp mask, radius and clipping 5, strength 50). Place in the wings in position below the frame and paper layers and apply a drop shadow as before.

Open pd-greens-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 80%, rotate 50 degrees to the left and unsharp mask as before. Place in position and apply a drop shadow as before.

Open pd-buckle and paste as a new layer. Rotate 5 degrees to the left and place in position on top of your frame layer, apply a drop shadow as before.

Open pd-flower-02 and paste as a new layer. Resize 60%. Duplicate the flower and resize the copy 80%. Unsharp mask on both flowers as before, place in position and apply a drop shadow as before.

Open your tube, paste as a new layer and resize if necessary. Apply the same drop shadow.

Click on your bottom white layer, select all and make a new layer. Open one of the papers, I used the same paper as before, paste the paper into the selection and apply your mask. Resize the mask if necessary.

Crop your tag and resize to your liking. Add your copyright info and text.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any problems, please email me here.

In this tutorial I am using the art of Pinuptoons.
You require a license to use Pinuptoons' tubes which I purchased from CILM.
The tubes/licenses are for sale at Creative Design Outlet.

I am using Pimp’d Designz beautiful new kit American Honey.

You will also need a mask.
I used Insatiable Dreams mask 157.
Here.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open pd-print-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 65%.

Open pd-mesh-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 65%, place in position and apply a drop shadow vertical and horizontal 1, opacity 70, blur 3.

Open pd-frame-02 and paste as a new layer. Resize 67% and place in position. Click inside the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 10. Open a paper, I used pd-pp-05, copy the paper, make a new layer below the frame and paste into selection. Go back to the frame layer and apply a drop shadow, horizontal and vertical 5, opacity 50, blur 10.

Open pd-greens-02 and paste as a new layer. Resize 65% and mirror, place in position below the frame and paper layers and apply the same drop shadow as the frame. Erase any part of this layer that shows at the bottom of the frame.

Open pd-greens-01, click back on the frame layer and paste as a new layer. Resize 50%, place in position and apply a drop shadow, this time changing the vertical and horizontal to 2 and the blur to 5.

Open pd-flower-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 50%, place in position and apply the same drop shadow as the previous layer.

Open pd-ribbon-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 65% and flip, place in position and apply the same drop shadow as the previous layer.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer. Resize if required, place in position and apply the same drop shadow as the frame.

Click on your bottom white layer, make a new layer and select all. Open one of the papers, I used pd-pp-08, copy and paste into selection. De-select and apply your mask. Resize the mask layer if necessary.

Crop your tag and resize if required. Apply your copyright information and text and then export as a jpeg. I usually set my compression to 5 for a tag.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any problems, please email me here.

In this tutorial I have used the art of Suzanne Woolcott.
You require a license to use Suzanne's tubes which
you can purchase here.

I have used Pimp’d Designz custom made kit “Just Gorjuss”.
You can get the kit here.

You will also need a mask.
I used Monti’s circle mask which you can get here.

The font I used is Barbara Hand which is a free font.

This is a very quick easy tutorial.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 x 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open pd-mask-02 and paste as a new layer.  Resize 80% and apply a drop shadow vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 90, blur 5.

Open pd-circles-01 and paste as a new layer. Apply a drop shadow vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 70, blur 10.

Open pd-bracket-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 50%, place in position and apply the same drop shadow as the circles layer.

Open pd-umbrella and paste as a new layer. Rotate to the right 15 degrees and unsharp mask (adjust – sharpness – unsharp mask – radius and clipping 5, strength 50). Place in position and apply the same drop shadow as the previous two layers.

Open two of the flowers, resize, apply the same drop shadow as before and place into position. I used flower-05 resized 50% and flower-02 resized 40%.

Open pd-pinwheel and paste as a new layer. Resize 40% and apply the same drop shadow. Position between the two flowers.

Open your tube, paste as a new layer, resize if necessary, move into position and apply the same drop shadow as before.

Check the positions of all your elements.

Open one of the papers, I used pd-pp-02, click on your white background layer, make a new layer, select all and paste the paper into the selection. Apply your mask and resize if necessary.

Crop your tag and resize to your liking. Add your copyright information and text. I used the same drop shadow on the text as I did for the pd-mask-02 layer.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any problems, please email me here.

In this tutorial I am using the art of Martin Abel.
You require a license to use Martin's tubes which I purchased from CILM.
Martin now sells his tubes/licenses at Creative Design Outlet.

I am using Pimp’d Designz awesome scrapkit
“Music 2 My Ears”.
You can purchase the kit here.

You will also need a mask. I used Becky’s Mask 023.
Becky no longer has her site but she allows her masks to be shared.
You can get the mask here.

You will need Animation Shop if you wish to animate your tag.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 600 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open pd-musicnote-05 and paste as a new layer. Resize 80% and apply a drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 70, blur 5.

Open pd-frame01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 45%, move the frame below the music notes, place in position and apply the same drop shadow. Erase the part of the music notes that go over the frame on the top, left hand side so it looks like the notes go through the frame.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer. I resized mine 90%. Add your drop shadow, place in position in the frame and remove any excess at the bottom.

Open pd-print03 and paste as a new layer. Resize 80%, drag below the frame and position.

Open pd-stars-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 50% and place in position. Apply your drop shadow but change the opacity to 50.

Open some of the buttons, resize 30%. Position them around the frame as in my tag and apply the drop shadow with the opacity back to 70.

Open pd-lp-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 25%, place in position and apply your drop shadow.

Open pd-tape and paste as a new layer. Resize 25%, place in position and apply your drop shadow.

Open pd-shoe and paste as a new layer. Resize 50% and place in position.  If you are not doing the animation, apply your drop shadow, otherwise we will apply it later.

Open pd-wa-03 and paste as a new layer. Resize 50%, drag it down below the shoe, place in position and apply your drop shadow.

Open pd-pp-07, click on your bottom white layer, make a new layer, select all and paste the paper into the selection. Apply your mask. I resized the mask 80%.

Crop your tag and resize if required, then add your copyright information and text. Export as a jpeg if you are not doing the animation.

 **********

To do the animation we will be using the warp brush. Set it to “push”, size around 250 - the brush needs to be quite large but if you have resized your tag, make it a little smaller.  Duplicate your shoe, hold the tip of the warp brush on the toe (see my screenshot below for a rough guide to position), hold down the left mouse button and lift the toe of the shoe upwards very slightly, it only needs to move a very small amount.

The warp brush makes things a little blurry so now we need to sharpen it up a bit. Use your sharpen brush to do this, have it the same size as your warp brush with the opacity on 70 and click once or twice in roughly the same place as you held the warp brush.  Apply your drop shadow to both shoe layers.

Close out the duplicate shoe layer, right click on your tag and copy merged, open Animation Shop and paste as a new animation. Back in paintshop, close that shoe layer and open the duplicate, copy merged again and paste in Animation Shop “after current frame”. Change the animation properties on both frames to 30. Put your animation through the optimization wizard and save.
