About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial I am using the amazing art of Screaming Demons.
You require a license to use Screaming’s art,
you can get one here.

I am using a custom made kit for the tube called
“Lost Soul” by
You can get the kit here.

I used two masks in this tag,
Brutal Designs mask 5, here
and Monti’s Circle mask, here.

Font used is Spacesuit, a free font,
you can get it here.

Don’t forget to sharpen your elements after resizing and rotating, essential for a good looking tag (adjust – sharpness – unsharp mask – radius and clipping 5, strength 50).

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 650 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used pd-pp-12. Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, de-select and apply Monti’s circle mask. Resize 85%.

Open another of the papers and copy, this time I used pd-pp-02. Do the same as with the previous paper layer but this time using Brutal’s mask. Resize 80%.

Open pd-frame-04 and paste as a new layer. Resize 65% and rotate 80 degrees to the left. Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand and expand the selection by 5.

Open another of the papers and copy, I used pd-pp02. Make a new layer below the frame and paste the paper into the selection, de-select.  Go back to the frame layer and apply a drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 80, blur 5.

Open your tube and paste as a new layer, resize as required and position inside the frame. Apply the last drop shadow.

Open pd-splatter-01 and paste as a new layer, resize 60% and duplicate. Drag the layers down below the frame, tube and paper layers and place in position so they are showing showing on each side of the frame. Apply a drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 1, opacity 80, blur 3 to each layer.

Open pd-mesh-02 and paste as a new layer. Rotate 60 degrees to the left and resize 60%. On this layer apply the unsharp mask twice, place in position and then apply the last drop shadow.

Open pd-fence and paste as a new layer. Rotate 90 degrees to the right and resize 45%. Place in position so the wire is showing below and to the right of the frame. Duplicate this layer and move the duplicate up a bit so we have more length to the fence. Erase any parts that overlap, merge the two layers together and apply the last drop shadow.

Open pd-metal-mat-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 60% and  move over to the left. Apply the same drop shadow as you did for the tube and frame layers.

Open pd-spider-web, paste as a new layer and drag up above the frame layer. Resize 60%, apply the unsharp mask twice to the web. Place in position and apply a drop shadow vertical and horizontal 1, opacity 80, blur 2.

Open pd-bats and paste as a new layer. Mirror and resize 55%, place in position and apply the original drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 80, blur 5.

Open pd-ribbon-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 50%, place in position and apply the last drop shadow.

Check the positions of your elements, then crop your tag and resize if required, add your copyright information and text and export as a jpeg with compression set to 5 or on a transparent background as a png.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions or would like your tag featured in my gallery, please email me here. I would love to see your result!
