About Me

Hello and welcome to my blog! I am Vivienne, living in the UK and married with a son who now lives in Perth, Australia and a daughter who has given me two gorgeous grandsons! Paint Shop has been my hobby for more years than I can remember and I love making tags. I have always loved doing tutorials written by others and a couple of years ago started writing them myself. As well as tag tutorials, I also have a Tips and Tricks page where you will find tutorials on basic Paint Shop techniques. I hope you enjoy my blog and have fun with my tutorials. Please be sure also to check out the Tag Gallery and see some of the awesome results to the tutorials!

In this tutorial, once again I am using the awesome art of
Screaming Demons.
You require a license to use this art, you can get one here.

The kit is another fabulous kit for the tube called “November”
You can get the kit here.

You will also need a mask, I used weescotslass’ mask 241, here.

Font used is Buffied,
a free font, you can get it here.

I have given instructions for the text, if you wish to do the same
effect you will need Alien Skin Eye Candy 5, Impact filter.

Don’t forget to sharpen your elements after resizing and rotating, otherwise your elements will be blurry.

I have also used different shadows to complement the different elements, you can use mine but its good to experiment with your own shadows as different elements and background colours need different shadows.

Open a new transparent canvas 650 by 650 pixels and flood fill with white.

Open one of the papers and copy, I used pd-pp-09. Make a new layer on your canvas, select all, paste the paper into the selection, de-select and apply your mask. Resize 90%.

Open pd-frame-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 70%.

Open another of the papers and copy, this time I used pd-pp-02. Select the interior of the frame with your magic wand, make a new layer below the frame layer, expand the selection by 10 and paste the paper into the selection. Apply a drop shadow on the frame, vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 80, blur 10.

Open pd-spiderweb and paste as a new layer. Resize 50%, apply the unsharp mask twice. Place in position over the top of the frame and apply a drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 1, opacity 100, blur 3.

Open pd-spider and paste as a new layer. Resize 40% and rotate 30 degrees to the right. Duplicate the spider, mirror the duplicate and resize again 80%.  Position the larger spider on the top, left corner of the frame and the smaller on the bottom, right corner. Apply the unsharp mask twice and then the same drop shadow as for the spiderweb to each layer.

Open your tube, copy and paste as a new layer. Resize as required and position nicely in the frame. Apply the same drop shadow as you did for the frame.

Open pd-flower-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 28%, place in position and apply the last drop shadow.

Open pd-flower-03 and paste as a new layer. Resize 15%, place in position and apply the last drop shadow.

Open pd-key and paste as a new layer. Resize 20%, place in position and apply a drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 80, blur 5.

Open pd-moon and paste as a new layer. Resize 70%, drag down until its just above the mask layer, place in position and apply a drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 0, opacity 50, blur 20.

Open pd-tulle-01 and paste as a new layer. Mirror, resize 65% and place in position. Again unsharp mask twice on this layer and apply a drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 1, opacity 80, blur 3.

Open pd-tulle-02 and paste as a new layer. Rotate 90 degrees to the left and resize also 65%. Place in position, use the unsharp mask twice again and apply the same drop shadow as the first tulle layer, erase any that shows at the bottom of the frame.

Open pd-splatter-01 and paste as a new layer. Resize 60% and duplicate. Place in position so the splatter is showing each side of the frame and apply a drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 80, blur 5.

Open pd-chandelier and paste as a new layer. Resize 60%, place in position and apply the vertical and horizontal 5, opacity 80, blur 10 drop shadow.

Open pd-bats and paste as a new layer. Resize 35%, place in position making sure to put the bottom bat over the chandelier frame, apply the last drop shadow.  Go back to your chandelier layer and erase the top part of the chain.

Crop your tag and resize if required, add your copyright information.

If you would like to do the text the same as I did, you will need to make a pattern.  Copy one of the splatter layers and paste as new image. Crop a small section as in my screenshot below.

Go to effects – image effects – seamless tiling and apply with the settings in my screenshot here.

Apply your text with the background set to the pattern you have just made and no foreground. Apply Alien Skin Eye Candy 5, Impact, Glass, click on “settings” and choose “clear”, click on ok.  Unsharp mask with radius and clipping on 5 and strength on 50. Apply a drop shadow, vertical and horizontal 2, opacity 80, blur 5.

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial, if you have any questions, please email me here. I would love to see you tag and include it in my gallery!
